Re: Hanen update
Mind fucking blown.
But hey, better for us. |
Re: Hanen update
Does anyone know what's going on with the case at this point? I can kind of understand legalese but why did they push it back? Is there some more information that the court wants to see or??
This just seems kind of weird - Hanen seemed rearing to go before. |

This is another move in which it seems like they really want Congress to take care of it, not the courts. At the same time, Trump wants the Courts to kill it so he doesn't take the blame. It's ultimately up to Congress to deal with this issue. I hope Trump / Kushner (not Miller) and Congress can come up with something. |
Re: Hanen update
This might be Hanen trying to kick the can down the road. But if you read the other documents, it seems like he gave both parties time to research their position and come up with evidence. It seems like those defending DACA complained to him that Paxton and his goons were hiding evidence during this period and so they needed more time to sort it out
|
Re: Hanen update
They can’t just hide evidence though. Anything planned to be used in court has to be given to the other side. If anything, it seems like Hanen is waiting for the Supremes to take action before him taking action himself?
|
Re: Hanen update
It's up to Congress now. Amirite?

I just doubt that anything substantial could happen without urgency - it's the only way congress passes much of anything now. I hope they pass something too. But the weird thing to me is the timing of all of this. Voter memories are notoriously short. Hanen is clearly Republican friendly, and so is the SC. Why keep on pushing it back? They both could have gotten this issue out of the way last year. At this rate, DACA might still be alive right before the election. If it goes away then, that can only hurt their party. I know that the courts aren't meant to be biased, but maybe their calculus is that if they push it back to right before the election, the Republicans have more reason to compromise? Idk, all of this just makes no sense to me from the perspective of the Republicans. Hell, wouldn't the courts just issuing another wind-down period for DACA make more sense too? Paxton said that would be okay for them. Not that I want DACA to go away - I'll take DACA forever lol |
Re: Hanen update
Supreme court is waiting on congress, Hanen is waiting on supreme court and congress is waiting till 2020. To me it seems like some big money players have a role in this.
Democrats do not seemed worried at all which worries me because of leverage. Right now democrats have leverage on Asylum but it seems they are going to cave on Asylum (4.6 Billion). I think SCOTUS will take the case OCT 3 and we would get a ruling in June of next year which is bad for us. Democrats will have no leverage. |
Re: Hanen update
Good!! My DACA should be approved by 9/19

Re: Hanen update
DACA is like a Zombie, you can't kill it!

SCOTUS update:

@JoshMBlackman
Following Following @JoshMBlackman More 22/ Moreover, I'm not sure how this decision affects the DACA case. I had expected a GVR, based on the census case, in light of the fact that the court probed the Director's intent. Now, such a GVR would not work. @SCOTUSblog Follow Follow @SCOTUSblog More Prediction: tomorrow, the DACA cases will be sent back to the agency for reconsideration in light of the Census case, on the ground that the administration’s rationale for ending DACA arguably doesn’t match the facts of what it did. So DACA will live on, briefly. |

@JoshMBlackman
5m5 minutes ago More 25/ One other wrinkle in the DACA matter. Judge Hanen was scheduled to hear oral argument in July. That hearing was pushed forward till October. #SCOTUS may go the entirety of Trump's first term in office w/out hearing DACA challenge. |

Following Following @juliehdavis More "In order to get resources to the children fastest, we will reluctantly pass the Senate bill," Pelosi tells House Democrats in "dear colleague" letter. And with that, she caves and $4.6B in humanitarian aid will clear Congress today and with that tRump gets another 4.6 billion dollars $$$$ |

Re: Hanen update
The only way i see it Congress is beyond worthless. It's set up, manufacrure in a way that only clear cut legislation that everyone agrees on passes. Anything less than that is a joke to them. The only light at the end of the tunnel is that SCOUTS rules that Obamam had indeed th e legal authority to enact the DACA policy/guidance, (not done via executive action) the end.

Re: Hanen update
Everyone wins.
- Trump will say he ended DACA and will blame the courts. Continues to get billions and billions for border security. His supporters happy. - Dems no longer have urgency. Will continue to use immigrants for votes. No need to push for a permanent solution. But don't worry Kamala Harris will issue Green Cards in 2024 when she wins re-election! - Multi-millionaire immigrant organizations - Will continue to scare public and ask for donations so they can "save dreamers." - Dreamers. More than happy with DACA being safe for now and will continue to renew. I think the only full-proof way to legalize is through marriage. |

@lauradfrancis
2m2 minutes ago More NEW: @SenMikeLee just made a unanimous consent motion to bring #S386 to the floor with the @ChuckGrassley #H1B amendment. It was held up by an objection from @RandPaul. The bill would eliminate per-country caps on employment-based green cards and give DOL more oversight/enforcement authority over the #H1B program. The sponsor of the House version, #HR1044, @RepZoeLofgren, has moved to put that bill on the consensus calendar, which would send it straight to the floor there. . @mkraju 1m1 minute ago More 305-102, the House clears Senate $4.6B border spending bill - with 95 Democrats voting against it. It now goes to Trump’s desk. |

@JamilSmith
Follow Follow @JamilSmith More This is an inexcusable submission by Nancy Pelosi and the moderate Democrats who apparently prodded her to accept the Senate border funding bill, which offers only the administration’s word that they won’t misuse the $4.6 billion that they’re given. Right. |

Geez! President Trump wasn’t kidding when he said the Democrats were weak and bad negotiators...
