Supreme Court has granted the DACA cases

The Supreme Court has granted the DACA cases, consolidated for one hour of argument

US Supreme Court will hear DACA cases next term, per order now supremecourt.gov/orders/courtor…No

The U.S. Supreme Court agreed to hear President Donald Trump’s bid to end deportation protections for hundreds of thousands of young undocumented immigrants, taking up a politically explosive issue likely to be resolved in the heat of next year’s election campaign, Bloomberg News reports.

The administration is challenging rulings that blocked it from rescinding the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, begun under President Barack Obama. Lower courts have said the Trump administration’s explanation -- that the program is illegal -- isn’t adequate.

Well this is it people. The end of DACA will be next year.. At least we will be able to renew one more time.

They're not hearing the Texas one? Does that make a difference? APA vs Constitutionality?

@cristianafarias

Wow, BREAKING: The Supreme Court is gonna hear all three #DACA cases in the next term, minus the Texas one.

Qualified good news for Dreamers: This means the program stays in place for renewals for a while more!

I think we can win the APA one but constitutional one is a lot harder to win

I am scared and excited over this. Our case is being heard before the most powerful branches of government. We will be officially part of American history. Although our future is uncertain, I am confident that whether it stands or fail, we will have relief.

One of the positives I see in this is that they didn't strike the lower court rulings. Meaning they're open to what the other courts rules. They could have granted the cert and said the admin had a strong position so put the Lower court rulings on hold. They most likely will hear the case and send it back to the lower courts with how to proceed

Yea there was a possibility of a GVR, but they just granted a certiorari.

Lol minus the Texas one... Bunch of Texan idiots.

This will only cause DACA to be phased out and reinstated by the next administration. Chances we are screwed are still small. I would say, time your renewals well. If your renewal is not due, then consider sending it early and timing it so you get 2MoreYears

Correct me if I’m wrong but sending your application early doesn’t make a difference. They only review your case if its within 150 days of expiration.

So we need to send it before this year ends?

I have sent early multiple times and they always approve me with the downside of loosing months of a good permit.

I don't think they're approving early anymore

Yes, send in your renewal. I should be approved by December, and will be sending another application once my new card arrives (if there is no Supreme Court ruling by then).

This makes absolutely no sense since they'll hold on to your app until the 150 day mark

Trump vs. ‘Dreamers’: Supreme Court to decide on DACA during the election year
The Supreme Court agreed Friday to decide whether President Trump may end Obama-era protections for the young immigrants known as Dreamers.

After months of delay, the justices announced they would hear arguments in the fall over whether the administration has the authority to “wind down” the program, which suspended deportation for these young immigrants who were brought into the country as children.

Under the court’s schedule, a decision would not be handed down until late spring of next year, just as the presidential campaign moves into high gear.

The long legal dispute has been a source of anxiety for the nearly 700,000 young adults. covered by the program. They have been living and working in the U.S. legally under the Obama administration program. But if Trump’s termination of Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, or DACA, is allowed to proceed, they could be subject to deportation to foreign countries they have never known. -Source

So, if they decide that it's unconstitutional, will they at least let us keep it until it's expired?

The question before SCOTUS is the legality of Trump's decision to end the program and not the constitutionality of the program itself.
#DACA is LAWFUL & CONSTITUTIONAL. This case is about HOW the Trump Administration ended the program, which is different than IS the program legal. 2/ @leedsgarcia

This is an important thing to note for everyone out there on DACA. It's likely that a decision from the Supreme Court won't come until spring 2020 or later, and DACA remains in effect until then. And even if the Court rules in Trump's favor, DACA doesn't instantly end. @reichlinkelnick

I guarantee you there will be some sort of temporary extension as part of a budget/spending bill etc. just for them to get through the election.

Looking good means different things to different parties. One wants SC to kill it or to kill it themselves, that's looking good for them.

If we're talking Goodlatte bill or similar, it didn't extend DACA. It's a completely new program that not all current DACA holders are eligible for and it's non-renewable. It is by no means a DACA extension.
