Trump press conference “We’re going to be signing an immigration act very soon.”

“We’re going to be signing an immigration act very soon. It’s going to be based on merit,” President Trump says, adding, “We’re going to work on DACA.”

I can't see that happening unless the immigration act is actually something bad. We gotta wait on the details of the immigration act before we can judge.

My read on this is that if the lawsuits come from the Democrats... and it turns out that the immigration act is something that would be very positive for DACA, that would be super hypocritical and I would say that they would lose the election on that.

No matter what happens, long run I only see this as a benefit for us.

Hate to burst your bubble but its best not to get your hopes up at all. Nothing this administration does will ever be fair and good for us or our families.

Nothing will be good as long as Miller is still there.

Anyone want to actually have a productive conversation on what Merit based immigration could entail instead of derailing yet another thread.

"based on merit".. which means only a few people will qualify.

Maybe means
Education - have at least a Bachelors or advanced degree
And/or
Income - make more than X

Re: Trump press conference “We’re going to be signing an immigration act very soon.”

“We’re going to take care of DACA in a very Republican way”....translation it’s going to be very limited and will only include a small portion of DACA population. Also he keeps saying “act” which are only passed by Congress and we know that’s not happening. So really it’s an EO that will carry little weight to what he can actually legally do and it will face court challenges depending on what’s included.

My half minded speculation for Trump Admin-based relief to those in the US:

Requirements:
a] Been in the Country for X amount of years.
b] Clean criminal history.
c] Graduated HS and College.
d] Currently work in some kind of STEM career.

If so, then:
a] Leave the country and get in line to apply.
b] Once you apply, get through the line, and are approved, you get a work permit and some kind of semi-long term (i.e. 5 year) temporary status without a pathway to citizenship and no government benefits.

Immediately revocable if:
1) You incur any criminal activity on your record.
2) Leave the country.
3) Lose your STEM job.
4) Fail to file and pay taxes.
5) Make less than X amount of dollars as reported through income taxes.

The moron president could of had a win under his belt had he accepted the $25 Billion for the wall in exchange for DACA. Failed negotiator just like his failed businesses.

He's not even gonna do anything DACA related by executive order. He's gonna do whatever crappy immigration system he wants by executive order and then say "I can do this because the supreme court says I can". Get sued, lose and call it a day.

Besides that he might come out with a shitty DACA bill that will never pass

Re: Trump press conference “We’re going to be signing an immigration act very soon.”

Last time Trump and the GOP came up with a merit based system, it was something fucking ridiculous:

Age

Priority is given to prime working ages.
Someone aged 18 through 21 gets six points, ages 22 through 25 gets eight points and ages 26 through 30 get 10 points.
The points then decrease, with someone aged 31 through 35 getting eight points, 36 through 40 getting six points, ages 41 through 45 getting four points and ages 46 through 50 getting two points.
Minors under the age of 18 and those over the age of 50 receive no points, though people over 50 years old are still allowed to apply.

Education

Points are distributed based on the highest degree a person has achieved. One point is given for an applicant with a US high school diploma or the foreign equivalent. A foreign bachelor's degree earns five points, while a US bachelor's degree earns six points.

A foreign master's degree in STEM fields earns seven points while a US master's earns eight points. A foreign professional degree or doctorate earns 10 points and a US equivalent earns 13.

English ability

Points are also given out for English ability, as determined by standardized English test.
Anyone with less than a 60th percentile proficiency gets no points.
Between 60th and 80th percentile is worth six points, someone in the 80th to 90th percentile range earns 10 points, someone with a 90th percentile proficiency or above earns 11 points, and someone in the 100th percentile range earns 12 points.

Job offer?

The only point scale that factors in whether an individual actually has a job offer in the US comes in the form of salary in an effort to boost wages.
Five points are awarded if an applicant has a job offer that will pay at least 150% of median household income in the state where he or she will be employed. That goes up to eight points if the income is 200% the median income, and 13 points if it's 300% the median.

When they offered it, I was a medical student (no income or job offer), my highest degree was Master's in biology, and I was in my 30s. Even if they don't fuck with us with the English test (and they will), I wouldn't have qualified.

He is so vague. I think he will rescind DACA and/or introduce his own bill or "act."

No matter which way he does it, such executive order violates constitution and INA.

Democrats will not sue. Republicans like cock eyed attorney general from Texas will sue.

Merit based I would say they would grant us probably a 10-year path to citizenship, with work and education requirements. Things that would help and speed up the process are a Bachelors degree, graduate degree, job history etc..

There are 0 details right now. We have to wait and see

Doubt college is a requirement now that i think about it, i know of a few daca recipients with GEDs that are business owners and contractors.

What i see being pretty realistic is asking for a mint tax return record and extensive work history.
