Dignity Act - 2023

https://thehill.com/latino/4017262-h...ignity-status/

Reps. María Elvira Salazar (R-Fla.) introduces the Dignity Act again but this democratic co-sponsor and bipartisan support. Overall it is not bad considering it is from a GOP-controlled house.

Quote:

Reps. María Elvira Salazar (R-Fla.) and Veronica Escobar (D-Texas) see their legislation as having a better chance for success that the hardline GOP bill, charging undocumented workers a “1.5 percent dignity levy” in taxes and other fees that will pay for both border security and job training for American citizens.

For those already in the U.S. with no criminal record, the legislation would allow undocumented workers to enter with “dignity status,” allowing them to work anywhere and travel abroad freely. They must pay $700 in fees a year for seven years — just under $5,000 dollars — while under the status. Meanwhile, their payroll taxes will drop from 7 percent to 1.5, as they will not be charged for contributing to U.S. government programs for which they are not eligible. She noted those under dignity status will be responsible for paying for their own health care.

The billions raised though the dignity status fees will go towards funding border security. The 1.5 percent tax will fund the worker training.

Getting on the path to citizenship would kick off another five-year process for those with dignity status, one that takes five years and requires another $5,000. But it comes with a major snag — no one would have citizenship granted through the program unless the Government Accountability Office determines the border has remained secure for a year.

For those seeking asylum at the border, the bill would establish humanitarian campuses, where migrants would be housed while they await a determination in their case — something the bill mandates must take place within 60 days rather than the years-long process many await in immigration court currently.

The bill appears to include a longstanding priority for immigrant advocates, as Escobar said they are “working to ensure legal representation” to all those at the centers.

With Biden at the White House and McCarthy as a speaker, there is absolutely zero chance of getting any type of immigration relief.

So DOA.

Who pays only 7% in payroll taxes???
DOA because it makes no sense and also notifies those in any HR or financial role at your employment of your status which may lead to discrimination.

An incredible compromise is there to be had....if there is sincere willingness on everyone's part. Congress ought to pass something this year. There needs to be heavy negotiations behind the curtains to pass what will be a bill of historic proportions. This is the time for the Gang of 8 to shine. Celebrations will ensue downtown but only after the hard work is done...We have to resist and fight the true enemy of dreamer legalization, UWD and accompanying big money immigrant organizations.

I saw that as well but I don't see that as a big issue at this point. This is something that can help the entire undocumented population in the US and not just daca or Dreamers. Dems might complain about it but if something like this passes the House, I think the Senate will take it up and pass it. The hurdle is getting it pass the right wing house..

The payroll tax drop does not make any sense whatsoever.

Guest workers and people on all kinds of work visas pay full payroll taxes even though they don't qualify for entitlement programs and will never get a dime back in the future from SS and Medicare.

This "dignity"exemption would be a tremendous waste of an opportunity to shore up the SS and Medicare funds for a few extra years.

Plus, the border will never be "secure". It's 2023 and this border game is a ruse.
It is broken by design.
The powers that be will make sure it stays that way. They love the cheap migrant labor coming from the border.
They can't enslave black people anymore so they turn to the next best thing, which is desperate Central and South Americans.
How else will they get desperate brown people to do anything for them for cheap if not from those fresh off the border !?

They won't turn off the spigot for nothing.

This guy is so pathetic. He tries to shit on people here by calling them NPCs, but that's always his response or something about how he's basically royalty and walks on water due to how much money he supposedly makes. Literally, the stuff and way he posts on here can be programmed by maybe 8 simple lines of code.

Ironic for someone calling everyone here an NPC. Pathetic one dimensional SOB.

I mean with the economy...I just think it was a regular cycle....but with Dream Act...for sure the chances were much higher...the only problem was Dems did not want him to get a "win" and big time money organizations did not want any solutions to pass...so they kept scaring the public and tried their best to ensure there is no talk of legalization for Dreamers...its the biggest fraud in history of this country..

Don't even waste your time bro, these are trumpsters in disguise posing as dreamers. It's the same kind of trolls who support racist and racist apologists but be online trying to convince minorities that the GOP is god's gift to black communities. They skirt over all the numerous obvious right wing policies that solidify the notion that a POS like Trump and anybody who truly supports him have no interest in helping minorities and any immigrant who is not white except for cubans. And let's be clear about the fact that the only reason they pander to cubans and legal hispanics in this country is simply to divide and pit the various immigrant communities against each other.

Trump and his cronies fuel hate against specifically black and brown immigrants to further fan the flames against non whites in this country. I hate to lump other issues into this but this is bigger than just immigration. Russians who fuel their coffers don't have the same issues that the african, mexicans and other minority immigrants have to contend with and is the sole reason you never hear these racist POS make a fuss about the Canadian border or have any interest in curbing migration from any parts of Europe.

Can we also clarify the fact that the beef between Trump and DeSantis is fake af,. These mfers are snakes who will play any angle they can including manufacturing public infighting to fool the gullible. The GOP is essentially trying to ensure that if Trump goes down their backup plan Deathsantis can pick up the mantle, these two SOBS are one and the same.

Deathsantis's only purpose is to give their stupid base a false choice if they decide to stop supporting Trump or if he goes to prison and can't make it but he is even worse than Trump. Same policies but he is more competent. Don't fall for the BS

Oh and wait till y'all find out the REAL reason DeSatan was transferring immigrants by plane to other cities around the US. Wait till the truth comes about why he claims to hate illegal immigration, but wont take any real steps to handle it. Wait till you find out that rubio and desantis' campaigns are funded by companies who own REAL plantations and are using SLAVE labor to run these plantations. And where are they getting the slaves you may ask? Take a wild guess. Also fun fact, Desantis' good buddy owns the charter plane company that he was using to transport these immigrants, meaning that of course the money he took to "battle illegal immigration" is actually benefiting him and his buddies. what a surprise.

While we're at it, did yall know that one of Desatan's best friends committed suicide last year shortly after an investigation was launched into him being involved with human (immigrant) trafficking. None of this will ever make the news in the way it should....so I just wanted yall to know
https://www.tampabay.com/news/florid...ard-governors/

Fuck Trump and the GOP! I wish the democrats could do more but it is a pipe dream to think that Trump and the GOP are going to help us. FOH with that BS
