Spreading the Word Ideas, PSA's?

Hey guys,

about me: I am located in NY and i have a lot of connections to TV organizations (i am 21 and an actress and a Dreamy!a weird position for me to be in)

I have access to really good camera equipment, good friends (non dreamies) that can help us spread the word, friends who work for network television.. i was wondering if anyone has a very well thought out, smart way of spreading the word (GOOD Ideas for a PSA), I can tape it, I can even speak in it, throw it on youtube, try to get it on tv..

Thing is I've seen other PSA's for the Dream Act, but I am not sure of how much awareness they've spread, I'm hoping to get a celebrity of some sort of help us get it passed ( I have friends that know celebrities that might be interested).. I understand that the Dreamact kids like us are an underground community in a way and it isn't always safe for everyone to speak out.

I respect that, but I am thinking we can do it in a roundabout way.. ( I am getting tired of not doing anything about it other than calling senators, I am willing to put myself on the line.)

We can make PSA's I can talk to the camera, maybe some of you guys talk about your story, we don't have to say your names in it. ( if you guys don't want to be in it or think it isn't safe, then we can just get (non celebrity)actors to do some smart talking points about the Dreamact as YOU, I think it could be just as effective)

If anyone has experience doing this and KNOW of an idea that would GET THE POINT ACROSS and help. (what to say, what NOT to say)

Maybe we need to work smarter, not harder.

Please let's take advantage of my sources and put our heads together.

I am excited about hearing back from you guys!

I am fully confident in myself, and you guys. This is our time, I think Obama is going to help us too.

Message me here or private message!

i'm in. If we can make a video like the one above, we will definitely make a difference.

^yea that video above is awesome. It's a simple concept, but very moving. I'm in NJ, and I'll try to help as much as I can, but with Grad school I don't have very much free time.

Maybe we can get record the DREAMers talking about their story without showing their face.
Like focus on their hands as they're talking, etc. Use creative angles.

I've never heard of celebrities speaking for or against the immigration issue.
During the student marches in 2006 in LA, were there celebrities participating?

The problem is with celebrities, even if they support our cause, a lot of people don't, and it could lead to trouble for the said celebrity.

I'm in New York, and if you need any help, let me know. I also know people who could help and some semi-famous people who might be willing to speak. :)

what about all those apple videos? You know how the dancers are like shadows, we can do something like that? What do you think?

Well, we won't exactly be dancing, but if we get animated enough when we talk, that might work.

Get some actors. Kids of all ages. I don't think hiding faces will get the point across.

this is a very good solution. How much would it cost though? ? Would we be able to get volunteer actors?

We'd also need to get actors that support our cause.

great! i'm finally getting some response.

I can easily get volunteer actors.
This wouldn't cost us anything to tape it and edit it and all that stuff because i have several friends in the businuess who have all the equipment. ( i am also writing a short film this fall, so i got all that kinda stuff covered)

we can get (non famous) actors to play the roles of us.. giving facts. My idea.. starting one PSA off like this.. to capture the viewers attention.

" If one of your parents robbed a bank is it fair for you to have to go to jail too?"

( i know that sounds kinda harsh because robbing a bank isn't the same as going into a country undocumented.. but we want to very BOLDLY explain how unfair it is..)

and then continue with a few facts, make them all BOLD and enough to get people to go like holy shit that's not fair! if they want an education, thats not fair! we need to brainstorm something that would break someones heart.

Maybe have something quoting Obama talking about the Dream act? Do you think that it will benefit us to capture Obama's supporters? Or is it more important to try to capture non Obama supporters? What do you think is more comprehensive?

-Who are we targeting?
-What do we need these people to do?
- Why is this so important and crucial ASAP?

THE ACTORS:

Multi ethnicities ( to show that the Dream act is going to cover alll sorts of young people and not just the stereo typical idea people have in their heads)

some of them should be young and innocent looking ( because you need the audience to sympathize, and that is just how we are going to get them to sympathize.

some would be older and talk about the things they accomplished all on their own. college education, honors, this that and the other.

The PSA.. so we can throw it on youtube.. for free.. initially. Then i am going to start asking my friends who have connections with tv stations to help me get the psa running for free.

and if you guys can think of anywhere else we can show this psa let me know, i am in ny, maybe you guys in other states know people that work for tv networks too?

I wrote a lot. tell me what you think. think of your own psa ideas and write them here,

Think outside the box! no idea is too stupid or crazy! You need to think BIG and then tweak everything.

Make sure you include younger DREAMers. Age 12ish or so.

What does PSA stand for? I've been trying to figure it out ever since this thread was posted and haven't come up with anything. Excuse my lack of knowledge on the subject.

Anyway, this is a great idea. I think if we're going to quote people (politicians and the like) we need more than just Obama supporters... we need Republicans who are pro-Dream, even a quote by McCain who was a supporter of the bill. As well as the military, professors, people that work for the department of education if there are any quotes from them, even regular citizens. Maybe go on the street and show people a picture of someone, tell them what he/she accomplished and ask them if they'd want that type of person as an American citizen or if they think they are American citizens. If they say yes, tell them they why they're not citizens and all that jazz... it would be cool to see people's reactions. (kind of like when Jay Leno does his Jaywalking thing but more meaningful).

I agree that there should be people of all ages and ethnicities on the video. Younger kids and what they want to accomplish as well as young adults who have already accomplished so much but can't move forward with their lives.

That's all I got for now.

Maybe some of us could send you our stories so you can incorporate some of them in what the actors say. Our accomplishments, struggles, dreams. I think you could use quotes by supporters, even McCain, as a transition. Maybe go from the younger actors to the older ones?

he means creating a video where actors would tell our stories to raise awareness of this issue.

Re: Spreading the Word Ideas, PSA's?

i think its a great idea, we can always say our stories and why some of us live in fear knowing we arent free. we can get celebrities and big name university professors, news anchors, senators, (etc) with open minds who might want to help us. (first person to mind, tyra and oprah. but im not sure about what they think. tyra is more reachable though) but before we expose our selves we need to find their views of course. i think that having children in the video will be strong but not strong enough. afterall, the dream act is for people basically in high school and college who want to succeed and therefore we should use teenagers and people in the early twenties.
my pov..
