Change.org Round 2 Voting -- Official Thread

Sorry there are about 5 threads floating around, lets keep it all in one place.

***Go here to vote!***

DO NOT, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE, CREATE FALSE ACCOUNTS TO VOTE MULTIPLE TIMES!!

Lets finish this up strong!!

Quote:

Just a quick reminder to everyone, if you have already voted please log back into your account and make sure your vote has actually registered with the site. Once you are logged in click the DREAM Act idea and the vote box should be red, if the vote box is blue then you have not yet voted.

Jon, the creator of the FISA idea - which we endorse and urge everyone to vote for ( http://www.change.org/ideas/view/get...ivil_liberties ) - gave us the above suggestion. He said they were able to get a pretty good surge in votes by getting people to double check their vote.

Thanks all and now a message from Kyle of Citizenorange:
It's the last day to vote for the DREAM Act at Change.Org.

http://www.change.org/ideas/view/pass_the_dream_act_now

I'm assuming most of you have voted already and have asked all your friends to vote, so the best thing to do now, is to try and use new media tools to get tens of thousands of new eyes on this by tomorrow evening. I've written up a post over at Citizen Orange, and if folks can digg, stumble, reddit, and mixx my post we'll get lots of eyes on this. We should go through a blog though so we can monitor traffic and cut it off it get hijacked by nativists.

Here's my post:
<http://www.citizenorange.com/orange/2009/01/vote-for-the-dream-act-on-chan.html>

Vote it up using these three tools:
<http://digg.com/political_opinion/Help_The_Voiceless_Speak_Vote_DREAM_Act_at_Change_Org>
<http://www.reddit.com/r/reddit.com/comments/7ps3r/help_the_voiceless_speak_vote_for_the_dream_act/>
<http://www.mixx.com/stories/3475887/help_the_voiceless_speak_vote_for_the_dream_act_over_at_change_org>

I've been the most successful with StumbleUpon so if you could go to, http://www.stumbleupon.com, install the toolbar, and vote it up there, that would be awesome. Each thumbs up you give directs at least a few hundred new eyes to a post.

If you don't know what all of these tools are, you should. It's one of the ways we're going to outsmart the nativists. Hope all is well.

Much Love,
Kyle

I seriously don't understand why "Legalize the use of marijuana" is in first place with 2,500+ votes in the first voting day.. I have nothing against the issue itself but it almost makes me doubt this website. Who honestly thinks Obama's going to consider this issue? Even with the attention it's getting.

Chain e-mails are another Idea. I copied and pasted the following to following to family, friends, and classmates, I asked for their vote and for them to forward to their family and friends:

What I don't understand even more is why an issue such as "Legalize Milk" is currently in the 12th place with close to 800 votes. Like is this some kind of a joke? There are wayy more important issues out there than this. This is just holding us back., i just think it's rediculous

We're in 16th place right now, so vote vote vote!!!

Why not? It is a perfectly valid issue, and to some people, it is a priority. Not everyone voting for this issue is a 17 year old stoner listening to the Doors in their basement.

I voted, posted links, sent out e-mails..I'm sure we can catch up by January 15th.

Yeah, I totally support the legalization of weed but what the hell is up with the milk thing? I'm probably biased cause I'm a vegan and I've read tons of stuff on how bad milk is for you, but still.

Milk? How is milk bad for you?

Seems we are not getting any closer to even top 10.

Re: Change.org Round 2 Voting -- Official Thread

Hmm... I thought most of the other ideas in the top 10 would have a majority of their votes on the first day then slowdown. Seems that isn't happening.

EDIT:
Even stranger. I got about 20 friends in about 10 minutes to vote for the dream act idea, and we actual didn't more any closer to 10th place. Doesn't make sense. If ideas start to pass their original totals in less than two days, then something is fishy.

Maybe something is fishy, maybe not. It doesn't matter, we should have at least 2000 votes by now. Stoners are better networkers than us, come on people...If we can't get a couple thousand votes for this how do we expect to get support from Congress?

It's about the rest of your life, remember? It's up to you to create your own future.

questionsihave 01-06-2009 06:14 PM

Re: Change.org Round 2 Voting -- Official Thread

Classes not starting till the 20th kind of hurts the flyer idea.

Still, we are only at 1100, but we got over 2200 votes in the first round. I have been sending out messages to afl-clo and others to get them to mail out messages to their supporters. No response as of yet. I will look for more ways to spread the idea tomorrow.

Some reasons why our number may be so low:
1. People didn't understand that there was two rounds. So they don't think they need to vote a second time.
2. Change.org has gotten a lot of attention so more people are weighing in now than the first round.

I think we will need around 10,000 to make it in if the rate of the lowest doesn't slow down; I think it may slow down, but who knows. 20+ votes every 5 minutes is crazy.

It's interesting how DREAM is so far behind yet it has the most number of comments, alot more than most of the other ideas that are way ahead... I hope everyone votes!!

Hmm..u think? like get rid of drugs I saw the other day was very much on top with 1000+ votes?? I mean lets get real. Yes we can fight getting rid of drugs but anyone in their right state of mind know that illegal drugs will never END despite ALL the effort that's made. It's like finding a needle in a hay stack.*my opinion* sue me if I'm wrong.

Ok, I took the time to post on all the other top ideas asking for them to also support our idea. I also posted on some popular pro immigrant youtube videos and websites asking for their support. I will be back at it tomorrow.

lets hope it works. At 1200 with 627 gap.

I got three people to vote.
I don't think I can get any more because I don't have that many people who know about my situation.

Maybe I can be craft about getting others to vote without them finding out about me.

Re: Change.org Round 2 Voting -- Official Thread

If you don't want people to know about your status you can ask a citizen friend to send a message to everyone on their friend list on facebook or myspace and even put it up as their status. I told my bf to do that and he already got someone to vote.

Just make sure to tell them to pass on the info to others as well.

????? Don't be so negative... if we do everything we can to help DREAM it will pass. :)

On a different note:

I saw on the change.org website that there are two issues that are similar if not the same... the "legalize the medicinal and recreational use of marijuana" and "decriminalize marijuana/hemp". Is there any way the second one can be taken down since it's the same issue? Anyone know if there are rules on the site for that?

We have a lot of groups backing us right now, regardless of us winning or now we have a great network in place to move forward.

Use the change.org vote as a talking point to get your local groups in tune with you and DREAM in general.

Change.org is only the first stepping stone in this years many many actions to come.

I know it is a perfectly valid issue but honestly think in Obama's shoes.. You open a letter with the top ten issues of a website and the first thing you see is "Legalize Marijuana"... I think he has more important things to worry about. And let's be realistic, these 17 yr old stoners have a lot of friends and they're the ones who (while high) make a bunch of different emails to vote with. I understand some people see it as a medical priority but i was reading some comments and all i read was basically "Let me smoke it because i'm free and it helps me relax"

And i feel dumb asking this but what do they mean by "Legalize Milk"??? Isn't milk already legal? Or are they referring to a different type of milk? Sorry for the question.

All i'm hoping is that people take this website seriously because some of us have faith in it and are working wayy too hard for it.

They are talking about milk that has not been pasteurized or homogenized. It's raw milk straight from the farms, with nothing added to it that's bad for you. The milk you buy in the store is full of hormones and whatnot, it can be bad for your health, cause acne, etc..

Anyway, on topic. Why won't the Facebook groups send out a message to all members? Those groups are huge, it would help.

I think its because Facebook limits the amount of messages that can be sent out in a day.

If a group has more than 5k members mass messages can't be sent out, however if it is a facebook page or cause then you can send out a message / post an update which shows up on peoples status bars etc.

groups with less than 5k can, groups with more can't. Causes and pages can get the message out to their peeps whether via an "update" or something similar.

Look for facebook groups and contact their admins, just a note. . . after contacting 5 or 6 groups FB will ban you from posting for 24 or so hours as they think you are spamming . . . which you just might be doing :P. Send messages to group admins to be safe!
