Healthcare Reform by October

Quote:

Obama told Congress this weekend that it's time to deliver on health care reform, and he wants a bill on his desk by October at the latest. But as the debate heats up on Capitol Hill, it's clear lawmakers don't see eye to eye on the issue.

"This is going to be a long, hot summer when it comes to the debate on health care, because, as you know, there are so many proposals floating on Capitol Hill, some that include the mandate, some that [have] a public option, of course, and many Democrats would like to have the single-payer option," Democratic strategist Donna Brazile said Sunday on CNN's "State of the Union."
october? that leaves what...november and december for energy and CIR to meet the "immigration reform in 2009!" deadline?

its gonna be a long summer.

well, he wants a bill to be passed in the senate; by July 31. The president signing it is a whole different story. after the bill is passed, it goes under public review; technicalities.

I agree with Alex! When the President says a bill on his desk by October, that doesn't mean the Senate will talk about health care for several months. The main debate will take place in July with two weeks of floor time in the Senate and one week of floor time in the House.

For health care, the House and Senate will then move to conference committee in September and then produce a bill for the President to sign by October. For our purposes, once the health care bills clears the Senate in July, the Senate is free to talk about other matters such as appropriations bills or energy when they come back in September. That assumes a health care bill passes the Senate which I think it will.

The Senate Agenda thread talks about the health care debate in more detail. Also, I'm thinking about turning the Senate Agenda thread into a blog. Feel free to voice your opinion on the Senate Agenda as blog idea on the link as well.

Oh no, I think we wrote at the same time, Alex. I'll go edit and say I agree with Alex! Oh and Judge Sotomayor is awesome, but I'm not Latino though.

EDIT: I'm also not white (sorry angeleno about your wrong guess). Umm, let's change the subject away from me (still a bit paranoid).
