Immigration reform headed for passage this year

Quote:

One version of immigration reform that people have discussed would take a comprehensive approach. It would secure the border, crack down on employers who hire illegal immigrants, and require illegal immigrants to register for legal immigration status, pay back taxes, and learn English in order to be eligible for U.S. citizenship. Would you ... Congress passing this proposal?

Total Support 86
Strongly support 58
Somewhat support 28
Total Oppose 14
Somewhat oppose 6
Strongly oppose 7

Among Republicans, that level of support is larger than the overall -- 89-11. It seems they realize that these undocumented immigrants aren't going anywhere, so they like the idea of giving them legal status as long as they're punished for breaking the law and required to make restitution. Seems fair enough.

One of the best news.

Who calls if they use the word 'Amnesty'

I know that people who do not qualify for DA will get some kind of legal status through learning English, pay fines, background checks, pay back taxes.

Please, please never the word amnesty in the same sentence as immigration reform. Amnesty implies a complete pardon which
a)further illegalizes the current act
b)makes CIR seem like an act of forgiveness; basically something for nothing.

US govt. is trying to pass CIR for their benefit also.

All of us should expect to pay fines, submit to background checks etc. Do anything that's reasonable.

TRUE and Support your point. the only bill passed on 1986 was called amnesty, because they were paid nothing and got the green card right away. what the word amnesty means is that forgive anyone who breakt the law to come here and legalize them right away without any punishment

Yeah, and the 1986 bill is the start of everything that has gone wrong with the current immigration system. Those were different years, when the US was an actual land of opportunity, now its just a big mess, with everyone fighting for every job on the market.

Some of us cannot leave because this is all we know.
