Senators Demand DHS Stop Deporting Dream Youth - Thank Them!

Hey guys...

I got this email via the Dream Activist site. It specifically refers to us dreamies, so please take action

Quote:

Senator Durbin (D-IL), Lugar (R-IN) stand up for DREAM youth, demand DHS stop deportations of dreamies

We have been fighting deportation case after deportation case, successfully stopping each but knowing all too well that the next one would be right around the corner. We have been leading a campaign targeting DHS and demanding that they immediately stop the deportation of all DREAM eligible youth, today that work is finally acknowledged.

Senators Dick Durbin (D-IL) and Richard Lugar (R-IN), the main sponsors of the DREAM Act, sent a letter to Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Janet Napolitano yesterday requesting that the Obama Administration defer the deportations of youths who would qualify for legalization under the DREAM Act.

The Dream Act has been around for almost ten years now. And from the beginning, Senator Durbin has been our greatest ally, as immigrant youth fight for their futures. But every year promises are broken as Congress fails to pass the Dream Act and we lose another class of talented youth to bleak and desolate lives in the shadows.

Enough is enough. We cannot wait any longer. Undocumented youth know this is the year, and we are coming out all over the country to tell our stories and claim our destinies.

We are stepping up our actions because we understand that the Dream Act must pass this year. And we need our allies in the Senate to do the same. We thank Senator Durbin and Senator Lugar, but it is not enough. Without the DREAM Act, thousands of immigrant youth will continue to put their dreams on hold, year after year. We need the DREAM Act- today.

Please sign this petition urging both Senators to keep their promise to us and be our champion by ensuring passage of the Dream Act this year.

Thanks in advance.

Ok, I just need some clarification here. I'm a little confused. Both senators (Durbin and Lugar) have written a letter to Secretary Napolitano urging her to halt the deportation of "potential" DREAMers. However, it is just a letter being sent to her, it's not a guarantee she will consider it, right? How exactly will this come about?

A letter sent to her on our behalf is better than no letter sent at all. We can only continue to wait and hope that Napolitano hears our protest. But with DHS having a 400,000 deportation quota we can't be sure of anything.
