Reid said to set deadline for bipartisan immigration deal

Having concluded that talks to advance a bipartisan immigration overhaul are stalled and party lines in the Senate are hardening, Majority Leader Harry M. Reid (D-Nev.) has told Sens. Charles E. Schumer (D-N.Y.) and Lindsey O. Graham (R-S.C.) to strike a deal in three weeks or Democrats will bring their own bill forward, aides and lobbyists said Thursday.

Lets hope that Reid becomes a man of his words on this one. In three weeks is great...what a great birthday would I have in May if it passes. Lets keep our hopes up and dial away those phones.

This is making no sense. The democrats cannot go solo on immigration reform. They need Graham and some moderate republicans.

If graham plays spoilsport, what other partisan "bill" does Reid have in mind ?

Is he planning to bring just about any immigration bill to the floor to have the republican candidates being called out for voting against it ?

Someone elaborate.

And for heavensake people stop getting extremely optimistic. Its natural to dangle the immigration bill right before elections. Im going to hold on to the celebrations.

Reid may just be playing politics. Maybe he thinks he can win the election in Nevada if he loses dramatically because of the Republicans on immigration.

That's one hell of a gamble for him to take, if that's indeed the case. His Latino constituents will blame him and Republicans if immigration fails.

If you have nothing good to say, don't say anything at all. Keep thinking like you think now and we will go nowhere.

Probably not because he can say, "I tried" & blame the 'other'[insert name here with [R]] person for it & that is all that is really needed for him & his base constituents.

Anything & everything is apart of the game in Washington to win,no issue or tactic is exempt from the playbook.I think some should ask themselves why now almost 1 year & 3 months into this Congress ?I also don't accept Heathcare as a feasible excuse.

Maybe I'm looking too much into this as a cynic, but I also get the impression Graham is not being that honest either. He works on "Bi-partisan" proposals & then when the next issue shows up declares everything he has worked with Democrats dead on arrival,I mean come on it is part his compromise as well ! I get the impression Graham & the Republicans cover use this as a guise under "Bi-partisanship" since he is the 'point man' for "negotiations",lol.

Well then Latinos are a bunch of morons because how in the hell is he responsible for Republicans being dicks?

No, Latinos aren't a bunch of morons. What they are is realizing how powerful their vote can be and that they give up part of that power when they donate their vote indiscriminately to one single party with nothing in return. The veil has been lifted and most now appreciate all the responsibilities that come with citizenship and their vote.

I know, but I am pessimist and sometimes I have a little nagging doubt about all this sudden tough talk from the Democrats--especially because they seemed to perfect the art of tip-toeing around the issue.:-|
