McCain issues statement on DREAM Act protests
Wow. So the truth finally comes out. McCain basically says: "That's what you get for not voting for me. Now screw you and get out of my way." What a jerk!! ---------------------------------------- By Todd A. Heywood 5/18/10 U.S. Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) has issued a statement about Monday’s DREAM Act protests in his Tucson offices. Three undocumented youth and a fourth legal citizen were arrested at the office and charged with trespassing by Tucson authorities. Officials planned to release the youth Tuesday, but Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) stepped in and detained the three undocumented youth. The undocumented youth have been in the country illegally for years and were brought here by parents. They say that 65,000 undocumented youth will graduate from U.S. high schools this year, without an opportunity to pursue dreams of higher education. They are trapped between the country they have grown up in and the country they came from but know nothing about, activists say. That, activists argue is the reason to pass the DREAM Act which would create a legal path to citizenship for such youth. McCain has sponsored the legislation in the past, but has decided not to this year. Activists and pundits alike attribute this decision to his battle to defend his Senate seat from a challenge on the right by radio talk show host J.D. Hayworth. In response to the protest Monday, McCain’s office issued the following statement, Arizona TV station KGUN reports: “Senator McCain understands the students’ frustrations, but elections have consequences and they should focus their efforts on the President and the Democrats that control the agenda in Congress.” Activists with the group One Michigan issued action alerts Tuesday calling on supporters to lobby Sen. DA User, Someone wise told me once on this forum that you have to learn how to be realist sometimes and not be overly optimistic on issues like this. By having such a stance, you will be prepared to face any setbacks which are especially inevitable with Immigration. So, just have a balanced view of everything. In my opinion, partisan politics are plaguing Washington and this is evidenced by McCain's response to these brave youth who have decided to lead the fight. Which dreams are you talking about? Senator McCain doesn't even have respect for his own colleague Ted Kennedy with whom he co-sponsored the last Comprehensive Immigration Reform bill which failed during the Bush administration. Simply put, Republicans don't want ANY legislation passed because there is a Democrat in office!

Clearly, the only person who has power to calm this storm is President Barack Obama. It is up to him to order Congress to get the ball rolling on immigration reform. I'll definitely be tuned in tomorrow to see his talks with Felipe Calderon. I'm sure Gutierrez still has something up his sleeve to help immigration reform going in Congress. Can Congress accomplish both climate bill and immigration reform bill before midterm elections? Will the current crisis in the Gulf Coast delay passage of the Climate bill? Will be interesting to see.

McCain is right though. Democrats AND Obama are in charge now and they should take more leadership on the matter. Pass something WITHOUT republicans. Unite.
