Executive Orders - The President's tool for Quick Comprehensive Immigration Reform

This is pretty much just speculation. Barack Obama has issued an executive order a few months ago, so I'm not too sure if he would issue another for immigration reform. This article was just a good read, so I thought I should share it.

Quote:

If Congress is unable or unwilling to pass Comprehensive Immigration Reform this year, the President could issue sections of its content as a series of Executive Orders. Thereby providing immediate relief form the sections of the immigration laws that are creating the most problems. The Senate conservatives would find difficulty in blocking these orders as 2/3 majority would have to vote against it; which is unlikely. The Executive Orders could be challenged in court, but that would take a very long time, and in the meantime, (enough relief would be given to the 12 million illegal immigrants in this country until a Comprehensive Immigration bill is finally made into law).
And not to get anyone's hopes up for no reason, but:

Quote:

It is very clear, from history, that the President of the United States may issue executive orders concerning immigration. Even local executives can issue an EO.

Obama has no balls for EO.

To me it seems that democrats want to get the republicans' fingerprints all over CIR, which is why they won't advance any immigration reform this year, with hopefully the exception of DREAM Act. What I mean is, since the democrats know it's a given that they will lose sits come november elections, they want to make sure the republicans' don't hold CIR against them during the presidential elections.

He has already declared one... What makes you think he won't declare another? The current issue is a paralyzed senate...

I don't understand what you're talking about. Do you mean the senate elections? The presidential elections are in 2012, and regardless they will definitely use any CIR passed between now and 2012 as a political platorm...

Both, immigration is a liability issue. No one party wants to pass it alone without the support of the other, that way they can point fingers to one another when it is brought up before the public on any given election. I'm no political strategist, but all bills are seen as just pieces of a chess board game. Most politicians agree that the right thing to do is pass immigration reform, however, they have to consider their respective constituency.

Presidents have been asking for this for years and nothing has been done. I dont mean to be a pessimist, cuz I would cry, jump and scream hallelujah if this happened, but lets be real.
