Pro-immigrant groups come together with Democrats to rethink immigration reform

Quote:

pro-immigrant groups met today behind closed doors with Senate Democratic leaders to discuss the possibility that, given the current political climate, Congress approved, at least, a legalization program for students and agricultural workers.
This was confirmed by Efe a legislative source who requested anonymity because of the sensitivity of the subject and that is not authorized to discuss the issue.
The idea is not abandoning comprehensive immigration reform that would eventually permit the legalization of the twelve million undocumented immigrants estimated to live in America.
But, given the small chance that it achieved before the legislative elections of November 2, activists believe that, for now, it's better to get "part of the enchilada" that nothing in particular.
"Not that they are abandoning comprehensive immigration reform. But if you are closing the window of opportunity for a comprehensive plan, these measures would be as a kind of down payment toward a long-term strategy to achieve reform," the source said.
"
"These groups expressed their wish that this year does not go blank, approval is achieved key elements of the reform," he said.

No, this is good news if they decide to go through with passing a piecemeal legislation.

I think demonstrations and hunger strikes are working. Hopefully they come up to their senses and vote "YES" to Dream and AgJobs. These bills had to be passed long ago.

Speculation floats in the air, but they must come through with their plans.
