Help Marlene Stay in this Country!

Marlen, a DREAMer from Arizona is scheduled to be deported on August 8th. She was at home resting with her 8 month old baby when she was detained by ICE.

She aspires to be a pre-school teacher, but her dreams along with being separated from her family are a few days away from coming to a crash. Please do all you can do to help a mother whose "only crime" was to work to provide for her two children and of attempting to attend higher education. How you can help"

Petition and call-in guide is here: http://bit.ly/marlenpetition

Facebook page is here: http://bit.ly/marlenfb

Her entire story is here: http://bit.ly/marlenstory

In addition to petition people should:

1. Call Rep. Grijalva (202-225-2435) and ask that he introduce a private bill on behalf of Marlen. Ask that he contact DHS and ICE immediately urging them to stop Marlen’s deportation.

2. Call Rep. Gutierrez (202-225-8203) and ask that he also introduce a private bill on behalf of Marlen. Ask that he contact DHS and ICE immediately urging them to stop Marlen’s deportation. Script for members of congress:

“Hi, my name is ____. I am calling about Marlen Moreno. She is a bright and talented DREAMer from Arizona. She is married to a legal resident and has two U.S. citizen children, but yet still faces an August 8th deportation. I am calling to ask that the representative step up to the plate and introduce a private bill for Marlen, in addition to directly contacting John Morton and Janet Napolitano, urging the both of them to immediately halt Marlen’s deportation. Please do not allow for Marlen to be deported! Thank you.”

3. Call Janet Napolitano, Director of Department of Homeland Security, and leave comments of support for Marlen and also ask that DHS stop her deportation: 202-282-8495

**note this is an answering machine, once it is full it is out of commission for day. Fill it up now with Marlen calls.

4. Call Assistant Secretary to ICE, John Morton and leave a message urging him to take action and defer Marlen’s deportation: 202.732.3000 **Note this is a live comment line, i.e. a human being will pick up and take your message.

**Be very polite:

“I am calling to leave a message of support for Marlen Moreno who is being deported on August 8th. She is eligible for the DREAM Act when it passes and should not be deported. I ask that Director Morton please step in to defer her deportation, she is an asset to this country. Thank you.”

I called and signed the petition and it took two minutes. Realized I didn't like calling. I wish she weren't in that position in the first place. Don't get me wrong I don't mind calling. I just really wish she didn't have to go thru that. Or anybody else really.

The petition site isn't loading for me.
I hate phone calls (in general), but I'll give it a go.

Re: Help Marlene Stay in this Country!

I got an email today that Marlene supporters will be excited to read

Quote:

Dear DREAM Supporter,

We did it!

Marlen received the best news of all yesterday, ICE contacted her to let her know that they reconsidered her case and will be allowing for her to stay in the country for one more year!!

Wow.

Marlen is able to stay because you took action. You called, you faxed and you had all of your friends do the same thing. Thank you.

From Marlen: “I appreciate each and every person who helped me and offered their support, everybody who put their dedication and effort to make this possible. I wish that this were also possible for others who find themselves in a situation similar to mine. I hope to be able to help and involve myself with everybody and all the to fight for the DREAM Act.”

Like Marlin we are dedicated to continuing the fight for the DREAM Act and we hope you are too. This victory shows us that we can win any case anywhere, but it also reminds us that we cannot keep fighting one case at a time, we have to get one big victory for all of us and that comes via passing the DREAM Act.

Starting this coming week we have organizers who are dropping everything to move to other states and mobilize SUPPORT THEM.
