CIR bill end of the month?

WASHINGTON -- Hispanic lawmakers are trying to bolster Democrats' efforts on immigration reform going into the fall elections with a three-part strategy that starts with a meeting at the White House.

New Jersey Democratic Sen. Bob Menendez, Illinois Democratic Rep. Luis Gutierrez and Congressional Hispanic Caucus chairwoman Nydia Velasquez of New York will meet with Obama on immigration.

Next week, Democrats will try to pass the DREAM Act allowing young people who attend college or join the military to become legal U.S. residents.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid of Nevada said Tuesday the DREAM Act is long overdue.

Menendez said Wednesday he'll cap the efforts by filing a comprehensive immigration bill in the Senate by the end of the month.

I hope not. It will anger a lot more people that the DREAM and might even ruin it for us. Let's pass the DREAM ant then worry about the CIR. Sounds selfish, I know, but I just don't think it stands a chance.

Just read an article that speaks of a three-part strategy. Very interesting.

Quote:

advocates, the grassroots and Congressional leadership are all focused on a three-part strategy:

1.*Pass the DREAM Act.

2.*Introduce and begin debate on a comprehensive immigration reform bill.

3.*Continue to demand administrative relief that ends the inherent authority doctrine, which allows local law enforcement to terrorize our communities, and puts a stop to deportations that are separating families in record numbers.

Well I guess if Schumer can't do it (write a bill), even after two Labor Days, then somebody else has to.

So long as they push for the Dream Act now, cool.

It would be pretty shitty if this, oh so very late, attempt of theirs killed the Dream Act.

What so hard here, i just don't get it. The border security act that passed a while back was like 10 sentences.

So what is the latest revision on the DA bill for House and Senate?

The way I see it is pretty simple: Pass the DA first. When that happens, we won't forget about CIR because you can't escape your past. This is part of who we are and we will fight for those in the same situation. We will be given a voice with which to speak up for the voiceless. And I really don't think that's selfish
