BREAKING NEWS: Lieberman says ‘Don’t Ask’ to return after election

Sen. Joseph Lieberman (I-Conn.) said he’s received assurances from Democratic leadership that major defense legislation containing “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” repeal would come again after Election Day if cloture isn’t invoked today.

“If for some reason, we don’t get the 60 votes to proceed, this ain’t over,” Lieberman said. “We’re going to come back into session in November or December. I spoke to Sen. Reid today. He’s very clear and strong that he’s going to bring this bill to the floor in November or December.”

In my opinion, above news is relevant to Dream in the context that we now must pressure Reid to give the same treatment to the Dream Act (i.e. bring it up as a stand alone bill) as he has pledge to do with Don't ask don't tell. That is, when you call Reid's office you should mention that we strongly believe he did not just add Dream Act to the Defense Bill as a political ploy and we urge him to show support to our community by bringing D.A. as a standalone a.s.a.p. Otherwise we can conclude/suggest this was just a ploy. , now this is just food for thought, but I would say it puts the ball per se back in Reid's court to act and not just play politics.

Bringing it up standalone is too dangerous. The republicans would have a field day with the damn thing.

Point taken, but if I recall correctly we would then have the votes of Hatch and Benett of Utah, two republicans, meaning 58 in favor, leaving behind one to pick up (as Reid withdrew his vote for procedural reasons). Now I don't have the sources but I am drawing Hatch and Benett would support as stand alone, this seems to be the trend as suggested at:
http://www.dreamactivist.org/
and Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/dreamactivis...010?ref=search
++
My emphasis is we need uniformity in our 2nd campaign for this, so I will call and ask as stand alone, all your thoughts are appreciated, but would suggest you to call and ask for a stand alone bill as the issue is "hot".

You're assuming that all Dem will for Dream Act. However, not all Dem will vote for Dream Act

Look guys we can run in circles on this , Understand if I recall from the vote today that both Arkansas Senator Pryor and Lincoln Democrats voted against Dream and we reached 56 votes, now I don't have the vote breakdown readily available. Again, emphasis on uniformity in how we approach our "2nd campaign" is my most salient point, above is not my suggestion but the suggestion of Dream Activist and Facebook Dream Act 2010 , any suggestion for DAP ? Otherwise suggest we work per their marching orders.

we had 2 traitors, we have 57 democrats for yes (including reid who had to vote no so in event of failure he can put dream act up again), and at least a few republicans who are willing to vote for stand alone, no wonder stuff about gays and abortions is enough to scare republicans away

We had atleast 10 Rep voted in favor of CIR/DA in 2007.

The terrible thing is that many of those republicans are no longer with us. I hope that the racial rhetoric about immigration will die down after the elections.

Some are but they voted no because of the political game.

The republicans would add more enforcement and there's a real possibility they might take away the educational prevision and extend the military provision. Some Dems would not be ok with that and they would vote against it.

It wasn't because of the political game it was because they didn't see the dream act an issue that would benefit them. If the Dream Act is brought up as a stand alone bill they will make up another excuse not to vote for it. EXAMPLE: (1) It needs to be part of CIR.
(2) The Border needs to be secured first.

IF they truly supported DA they would've voted for DA regardless of how it was brought up.
