Immigration advocates still talking about CIR

Quote:

Unions and pro-immigration reform groups are touting the impact of the Latino vote on the midterm elections as they renew their push for comprehensive legislation in the next Congress.

Nevertheless, immigration reform advocates understand how tough it will be to pass a comprehensive bill in the divided Congress next year. But they expect Democrats will at least want to debate the issue in order to keep Latino voters on their side.

“We might not be able to win that debate, but we certainly want to have it. The Senate can make sure we do and so can the president,” Sharry said.

Instead of pushing for the next realistic thing, they keep on playing these same old games. These groups are our biggest obstacle to dream passing this lame-duck.

Immigration reform is dead.

How much of a role do unions play in immigration reform? My current understanding was that they want to unionize those who are currently undocumented to add to their ranks.

My understanding is that the unions are pro-legalization. However, they oppose a guest worker program which is arguably an incentive for a few republicans to support some sort of CIR.

Thanks for clearing that up, I live in an area with very very few labor unions. With the exception of Firefighters and IBEW I have not seen a union hall where I live.
