We could see some immediate action on immigration issues in the lame duck session that will be called shortly by Senator Reid and Speaker Pelosi. Senator Reid has already said he intends to re-introduce the DREAM Act and he needs just four votes to get the bill over the finish line. It is possible that he could get a few of the departing Senators to change their votes. Perhaps he can get Senators Voinovich, Bennett, Brownback, Gregg, LeMieux, or Lincoln to change their votes. All are theoretically "yes" votes. Or he might have a shot at getting New England Senators Brown, Snowe and Collins to reconsider. And the one no-show on the last vote was Lisa Murkowski, previously a moderate on immigration who has told Alaska's Democrats that in exchange for sending her back to Congress as a write-in independent candidate, she would think independently. So maybe she is persuadable.

there is a strategic benefit in putting the DA as early as they are comfortable with, the senator elect from Illinois which already said would vote no will miss a couple weeks for the lame duck sessions (lame duck starts on the 16th I think and he gets sworn in on the 29th), however, this could be very controversial, but, it was done once before to pass another controversial bill. My worry is that this time it could be controversial enough where if it does not pass this time it could hurt the any chances of the bill passing in the long run.

The outgoing senators have a good chance of putting a yes vote on a controversial bill without much repercussion, they will already be leaving, however, if they vote yes on this bill they could use this to try and get the hispanic vote if and when they decide to run again. There are several in there that were on the fence and could vote yes without appearing as flip-floppers (LeMieux for example)

Just pass the damn thing and give credit to democrats and republicans so Latino voters will migrate between the two.

lol..i thought the "hahaha" at the end of the comment would make it seem as if i wasnt serious...but for real tho...even if the DA passes the senate...i think itd go to the house next year and not this year...and that would really really suck

Why would House wait till next Congress. Guteirez is leading the way in House and Pelosi will bring it up after Senate passes it.
