DREAM Act is dead. U.S. needs immigration for economic stimulus
The DREAM Act died in 2010 and that is good. But if the Republicans want to be the party of a dynamic U.S. economy then they had better get moving on an immigration fix that will supply the U.S. with a wave of young people for our future workforce. The best source of that future workforce is the countries south of the U.S. border.
This opinion, supporting Legal immigration while opposing Illegal immigration, will probably confuse those that supported the DREAM act and fail to understand why many people are angered over Illegal immigration. There is a difference between Legal and Illegal immigration. Failure to comprehend the concerns of those that oppose Illegal immigration hurts the opportunities for those that wish to be Legal immigrants. We the People can not simply choose to arbitrarily ignore those laws with which we disagree – Illegal immigration. The correct approach is to use the ability we have to change our laws when we see that need. Note that when we are unable to change our laws it is because those laws are supported by others of We the People who also have opinions they are entitled to hold. That is the case with our laws designed to control immigration. There are those among We the People that oppose immigration, both illegal and legal, on other grounds; economic or race. I don’t know how to appeal to people that oppose legal immigration of Hispanic peoples due to race. However, those that oppose immigration for economic reasons need to understand that our population is aging and that we need children now that will be a part of our workforce 20 years from now. That component of U.S. economic strength can come from opening up Legal immigration. See The Next 100 Years: A Forecast for the 21st Century, by Stratfor founder George Friedman. Note that in addition to the economic demands, the U.S. needs to remain a bastion of freedom: The news from around the world is not good for those that support freedom of speech and religion and economic prosperity. The majority of the Muslim world, much of the former Soviet Union, Venezuela, Cuba…this list could drag on… are far from free and getting worse. If the world is to remain safe for democracy then the U.S. needs to remain a symbol of that freedom. One great way to be a symbol, and the way that the symbol of freedom worked in the past, was that after immigrants came to the U.S. they wrote to their friends and family back home telling them about the great United States. People all over the world learned about the U.S. from trusted sources and as a result wanted the American dream and respected the U.S. You can’t buy that kind of international relations and you can’t win it militarily. The death of the DREAM Act followed by Republicans taking over the majority control of the House should bring about a re-invigoration of the U.S. economy through spending cuts, tax simplification, regulatory responsibility, and opening the American Dream to those that will come here – Legally. http://mindyourowndamnbusinesspoliti...omic-stimulus/ |
Re: DREAM Act is dead. U.S. needs immigration for economic stimulus
I read this article yesterday and I can't help but see how ignorant this guy is on the subject. He supports immigration but he wants the people that already are part of this society out. So what's his solution?

I feel that he's hinting that the government, particularly Republicans, should draw up some sort of legislature that will allow well educated, in demand individuals come to the USA legally. Perhaps they will have a special program for "DREAM"ers that will require them to return to their home country and their cases will be reviewed on the grounds of how desirable their skills are. It will disqualify TONS of "DREAM"ers but I have a feeling that this is what they will come up with.

You know Einstein was let into the US because of he was well the smartest person in the world on the science of motion. That is what this article is about controlled legal migration.
