Grassley: No Leadership on Reform
 

Immigration reform isn’t happening because the country lacks leadership from President Obama, says Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa.

In a speech in Texas earlier this month, President Obama said the U.S.-Mexican border is safer than at any other time in the United States history, but Grassley begs to differ. In an opinion piece in The Hill, Grassley said a little less than half of the 2,000-mile stretch of the border remains unguarded, giving thousands of illegal immigrants the opportunity to cross over into America.

“The president has touted the success of the previous administration’s achievement in doubling our Border Patrol, but he can’t hide the fact that there’s a clandestine effort to ignore the laws on the books,” Grassley writes. “...They have failed to assure the public that individuals with no right to be here are not currently being provided safe harbor.”

Republicans have accused Obama of being lax on immigration policy to get the Hispanic vote in the 2012 election, but Obama said his administration has met all Republican requests to strengthen border safety.

“We have gone above and beyond what was requested by the very Republicans who said they supported broader reform as long as we got serious about enforcement,” Obama told a crowd along the Mexican border. “The question is whether those in Congress who previously walked away in the name of enforcement are now ready to come back to the table and finish the work we’ve started.”

Obama has declined to introduce legislation or set a deadline for Congress to do so.

Blah blah blah!!! Senator Grassley sponsored the DREAM Act a long time ago, but because all Republicans MUST oppose anything the Democrats are for, he is against it now.

He is a hypocrite, just like the other Republican Senators that had sponsored the DREAM Act before but voted against it last year

Its a shame...US Congress has become a place of business. There is no difference in these great Senators and Representatives and those Wall Street bosses who take illegal bonuses each year. The days of Abraham Lincoln are over...welcome to the 21st century.
