Re: Alabama Immigration Law PROTESTERS RELEASED
Something very important to know about this case, it was the first time we included parents in a civil disobedience act, and where parents where arrested. In this case, there were 4 parents arrested, one of the parents was also a dreamer, but the other three where certainly not dream act eligible. only one dreamer, the one released early to the custody of their parents was underage (17) the others where over 18.
What they managed to do is catch politicians of guard in Alabama, this was the first civil disobedience act in the state for at least a few decades, and my understanding is that they may start reconsidering some of the draconian laws that where passed which very quickly became hugely unpopular. This act has been front page news in Alabama for the past three days. |
Re: Alabama Immigration Law PROTESTERS RELEASED
According to one of the individuals that came back from Alabama, there was a instance he went to a neighborhood and would see families packing up, taking what they could take because utilities were cutting their services and they could not live there any more. He documented observing looting taking place in some of those properties, this law, the Alabama law, became the worst anti-immigrant law that has been passed, and it has created potentially irreparable damage to the Alabama community to the detriment of every Alabamian documented or undocumented.

these are the guys who unwillingly desegregate the school system, unwillingly ditched Jim Crowe, and unwillingly gave up slavery?

What is particularly interesting, there was an expectation that people were going to be giving up and just packing to leave, and some where, but there were a lot of people that were ready to do what it took to protect their communities and prepare to organize. I just could not believe when someone told me that this was the first civil disobedience action in decades, and that being the reason the media has been putting this front page for the last few days. It is causing politicians to turn back and make some extraordinary statements, I have mentioned this many times, but they claimed those arrested were all permanent residents and that being the reason they were being let go. They are making this too easy, they should make the next action involve the 13 going into an ICE or INS office and demanding their SSN because they are "permanent residents". |
