Marco Rubio To Meet With Latino Democrats On Dream Act

Quote:

In a sign that Democrats may consider getting on board with Sen. Marco Rubio's Dream Act-style legislation, three leading Latino members of Congress plan to meet with Rubio Wednesday afternoon.

I've followed this guy as speaker of the Florida house, he's not all politics like the media makes him out to be.

Finally, some dose of good news. Can a solution be reached? Something tells me though that this is all a part of the political masquerade, partisanship still reigns and it will I believe in the end defeat this bill. Most likely Rubio at this meeting is trying to gauge if they will go for his "second-class" non immigrant visa solution. They won't bite and te dance will go on a bit longer. If they do somehow agree to a compromise though, which I doubt, that will be an amazing coup.

Earlier on Wednesday, Gutierrez did not comment on whether there would be a meeting but told HuffPost he had two questions about the Rubio legislation: whether it would stop deportation of those young people and whether it could pass.
"Most importantly, does he have 10 Republican senators?" Gutierrez said. "We know we got 55 the last time, do you have another 10?
It looks like as long as the bill stops the deportation of dreamers, Gutierrez would be willing to support it. I hope the dems realize that this bill is way better than the status quo. They can always vote on the original dream act in the future if they manage to gain control of the house and increase their majority in the senate.

I doubt that's what's going to entice him. Gutierrez from everything I have researched wants the citizenship path carved directly in the bill and I don't think he's going to bend. This is political drama as usual, if Rubio wants this passed he needs to start going to the tea party congressional bill, esp Rep King.

I disagree with you dude. A few days ago I was watching Spanish news on Univision. Gutierrez was interviewed and said that any relief bill for us should be seriously considered. I think he is not as picky as some of us are imagining him to be.

Did he really? Okay I'll give you that, if Gutierrez is actually considering it then that is reason for hope. Now all we need is for Durbin to speak. If Durbin states that he supports this fully then I will believe this has a strong chance of passing at least in the senate, the house repub congressmen and women still scare the living daylight out of me.

I am serious dude. I wish I could provide you with the link. I think it was around the time that Reid softened his criticism of Rubio's idea and Rubio spoke at this event:

I agree. Get Durbin and Gutierrez on board and others will follow.

your right.
Rep. Gutierrez was just on Univision and Jorge Ramos asked him what happened in the meeting with rubio.
He said he got more details about what he's planning to do.
and he said we should consider something to help youth relief and put politics aside.
Also he said he does not know how the house will take it.
