Obama maintains lead over Romney in tracking polls

The president now has a 5-point advantage over Romney in the Gallup daily tracking poll, 49%-44%.

Scott Rasmussen's daily tracking poll has Obama up 49%-45%, his biggest lead over Romney in that survey since March 17.

And for the second day in a row, Obama enjoys a 4-point lead over Romney in the Reuters/Ipsos tracking poll.

All of these leads have been built in the days since the Democratic convention in Charlotte.

"Obama's convention bounce is evident both in the head-to-head numbers with Romney and in his job approval ratings," Rasmussen reported.

Note that Rasmussen is a frequent commentator on Fox News, and some analysts believe his polls lean Republican (which Rasmussen disputes).

It also should be noted that tracking polls in the days ahead will take Friday's poor jobs report into account -- and that convention bounces in previous elections have eventually evaporated.

Rasmussen writes:

"The president's bounce began the night after Bill Clinton spoke to the convention and received rave reviews.

Sixty-six percent (66%) of voters nationwide have a favorable opinion of the former president. Democrats overwhelmingly believe Clinton and Obama have similar views on how to fix the economy, but few Republicans and unaffiliated voters share that assessment.

Among all voters, 59% see Clinton as a better president, while 19% prefer Obama. Democrats are evenly divided."

if he wins and democrats take over the congres... wow.. expect good, fair things to happen in the next 4 years guys.

I'm not sure if I believe in these polls. They tend to change on a weekly basis, but even with Romney's surge after he picked Ryan the polls still suggested that Obama was up narrowly. I still believe we have to get people to vote and more importantly get the House back which will be a tough ask. All of us should work towards removing the Repubes from power in the House and make sure the Dems hold on to the Senate.

I really do hope that Obama wins the elections.. Romney means no good news for us in the future.

So far, Obama has a nice lead on the electoral votes which is what really matters. Actually, he's had the lead on electoral votes for a long time and it doesn't look like that will change.

My advice, continue to support Pres. Obama through your USC friends and neighbors but at the same time, if you live in an area where your Representatives/Senators that are Democrats are having a difficult time, support that more.

Mitt Romney had no bounce from his convention, Mr. Obama. however, is enjoying an average of 5 point lead over Mr. Romney. PPP/Gallup polls that is.

You also gotta take into consideration that this is only someone's blog, numbers can change. I do, however, enjoy the lead that President Obama has over Romney. Also, the blogger predicted the 2008 election with a 99% accuracy, so I do trust his polls/numbers/charts.
