So much for off the record.
Meh, DACA got implemented which is the best thing in this volatile political atmosphere. Something will most likely happen in the second term. He has to secure the Latino vote somehow for his base for the next generation of Democratic Presidential candidates (Cory Booker? Julian Castro?) Rational and reasonable guesses on my part. |
Re: Obama 'confident' about immigration reform in a second term
I am sorry to say it won't happen. It won't be Obama's fault either. The president is one branch out of the three. As long as Republicans have the House and the ability to filibuster in the senate, it's very tough for immigration reform to happen.
What will change their minds though is if they start losing safe seats in places like Arizona, Nevada, Texas along with the presidency and they realize that they cannot be a viable national party without courting the hispanic vote. |
Re: Obama 'confident' about immigration reform in a second term
If the economy doesn't start picking up dramatically within the next 4 years I can't see it happening... Then again I never say DACA happening either...

Re: Obama 'confident' about immigration reform in a second term
I think CIR is still hard thing to do considering this economy.. but at least he should try to pass DREAM Act in first year and try CIR again before his second term ends..

Secure Latino Vote? Why bother? He lied about passing it in his first term, and Latinos are still supporting him. All the next Dem running for Pres. has to do is say he'll do it in the first term, and Latinos will fall for it again. Please show me one concrete action he took to try and pass CIR, besides speeches. He didn't lift a finger. He knew Latinos would still support him. http://t2.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:A...-EKT4hmgcF4-zY |
