DREAM Act 2007 Senate form letter - Act NOW!
The form below is what I composed and sent to my two NJ senators. Please feel free to use it, distribute it to all your friends and family who support your struggle, and personalize it as desired. Don’t forget to fill in the placeholders for the names and addresses of the two senators in your state. One easy way to find this information is by going to http://capwiz.com/aila2/dbq/officials/ and typing in your zip code. When doing this, make sure the info obtained is updated for the 110th Congress (i.e., you don’t want to send a letter to a senator who has been voted out of office). Also, you can send this letter in email form (on behalf of your supporters with their permission) by going to http://capwiz.com/aila2/issues/bills/ and clicking on either S.2075 or S.2611. Then enter the appropriate zip code and click on GO. You will be presented with a form letter to fill out. You may copy/paste the contents of this form letter into the free-form text box provided or compose your own text. Your letter will be sent to the two Senators associated with the zip code that you specified.
Please note that this letter will expire and should not be sent after the Senate passes the new immigration reform bill. At that time I will post an appropriate form letter to send to the House of Representatives to help expedite things. The house can really move on issues when they want to; remember how the mean-spirited Sensenbrenner bill passed at lightning speed. Now I believe we have a more compassionate, rational house which, hopefully, will approve the Senate’s bill before you can even send a letter to them. Remember, every letter sent makes a significant impact. ______________________________________________________________________ Sender’s Name and Address The Honorable Senator ??????????? United States Senate [BUILDING #] [BUILDING NAME] Senate Office Building Washington, D.C. 20510-XXXX Senator ???????????: Now that the 110th U.S. Congress is in session, I urge you to resurrect the 2006 Immigration Reform (S.2611) bill which you passed last April. Although there are other serious issues in our country that congress needs to address this year, please do not neglect immigration reform. Unlike last year, I believe we now have a U.S. House of Representatives who understand all the benefits of this bill and will support and pass a bill that you present to them. Of particular importance to me is the DREAM Act which was rolled into S.2611 under TITLE VI, Chapter 3, Subtitle C. The DREAM Act will set free 600,000 young American men and women who were brought here at a young age when they had no say in the matter, attended school here, and are ready to contribute to our economy and society. These young Americans never violated any immigration laws. For God’s sake, why are they being treated like criminals with no access to legal jobs, social security numbers, or drivers’ licenses? They shouldn’t have to suffer another day or wait another day for justice. That is why I implore you to expedite the passage of this bill early this year. Thank you for your support. |
