Leahy Announces Witnesses For February 13 Hearing On Comprehensive Immigration Reform

Here is the witness list for the hearing on the 13th of Feb in the Senate Judiciary.I think one witness on the list could be a sigh of relief for aged-out Dreamers of DACA.

WASHINGTON – Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Patrick Leahy Friday released a list of witnesses invited to appear at a February 13 hearing on comprehensive immigration reform.

Next week’s hearing is the Senate’s first on immigration reform this Congress, and will occur one day after President Barack Obama delivers his annual State of the Union address. The panel of witnesses will offer a broad range of testimony on an issue that will be at the forefront of both the Judiciary Committee, led by Leahy, and the full Senate in the coming months. The hearing, entitled “Comprehensive Immigration Reform” will be held on Wednesday, February 13, at 9:30 a.m. in Room 216 of the Hart Senate Office Building. Reporters interested in covering the hearing should RSVP to their respective press galleries.

On Friday, Leahy announced a list of witnesses invited by the Committee to testify at the hearing.

“I am looking forward to beginning a wide ranging discussion about the need for truly comprehensive immigration reform,” Leahy said. “Next week, the Judiciary Committee will hear not only from the Administration, but from advocates, business leaders and those who have been impacted by our broken immigration system. The diversity of this panel represents the many voices we need to hear from as we begin this important legislative debate.”

Testifying at the hearing will be Department of Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano; Pulitzer prize-winning journalist and Define American founder Jose Antonio Vargas; America Online cofounder and Revolution CEO Steve Case; and National Council of La Raza president Janet Murguía. Other witnesses include the American Federation of Government Employees’ Chris Crane and the Center for Immigration Studies Director of Policy Studies Jessica Vaughan.

Member statements, witness testimony, and a live webcast will be available online on February 13. A Spanish-language version of this release can be viewed here.

With Sec Napolitano and ICE agent Crane in the same room with Vargas who is openly undocumented, I wonder how that would work? Is Vargas gonna be under Senate immunity?

Ugh. Munoz...... And Vargas has had plenty of exposure. If they haven't gone after him yet, they won't do it. He's certainly said enough to the media so that ICE could prosecute him if they chose to.

Yeah I know they won't touch Vargas eventhough he's non-DACA eligible, but under what immunity is that? Say if one senator asks Crane "what prevents you from arresting Vargas?" Lol I know it probably won't happen but would be interesting what he'll say.

It is simply discretion. It is at the discretion of the officers to arrest an individual or not.....but in this case I don't think so.I think a high level DHS employee has indicated simply not to touch him.

Ianus : You mean the 31+ have a chance to get qualified in the Dream Act? I know Vargas did not qualify for DACA.

Not a single "witness" is representative of the majority of CIR beneficiaries.

I want them to invite a head of household, Mexican, father or mother, who toils away their productive years in dead-end, poorly-paid jobs to survive with his/her family. I want this person to have the confidence and protection of sitting next to Napolitano and the ICE honchos and the lawmakers who are supposedly advocating on their behalf, as they say to the MSM, and tell his or her story. Who can out him/herself as undocumented and say openly that he/she was arrested for driving unlicensed like Vargas. And because they are honest family people they were not prosecuted and are there to tell their story.

When this person does this then I'll believe these clowns are serious.
