For Immigration, Timing Could Be Tricky
Now that the Senate Gang of 8 appear to be unifying around more specific language and will try to hold the package together the next step will be all up to the Chairman of the Judiciary,Leahy.

Re: For Immigration, Timing Could Be Tricky
I sense this delay tactic is the last ditch effort to get CIR off track. They know the momentum behind it is undeniable so they are doing all they can to slow it down hoping that'll sabotage the bill. Hopefully Rubio can get out of his own way and stop talking out of both sides of his mouth. Surely he understands "dragging" this thing out is detrimental to the possibility of it getting passed. Most components of this version of CIR have been discussed for a long time so they need to stop acting like it's all totally brand new to them. D.C. politics at its worst I guess....SMH

Re: For Immigration, Timing Could Be Tricky
And once again the specter of Marco Rubio looms. I've always been skeptical about him being a part of the Gang of 8. He is the odd one out. All the rest are senior senators with a proven track record of immigration work. We need to plan rallies ASAP. We have the bull by the horn. Can't let go. Dems gotta be aggressive! I sure pray to God they have our back. There's absolutely no point for further hearings and debates. People like Lamar Smith and Sessions will NEVER vote for it. Why do we care about letting them provide amendments?

Re: For Immigration, Timing Could Be Tricky
Rubio's whack. Enough said
Anyway did any of you read senator Leahy's response to Jeff sessions? Senator leahy wrote him a letter that read: " “I hope it is not your intention to discredit the process we undertake in the Judiciary Committee before we begin" and “I intend to proceed to comprehensive immigration reform with all deliberate speed.” And “Under the Rules of our Committee, you will have your rights protected to hold over the legislation the first week it is listed on the Committee’s agenda,” Leahy said. “After that, you will have the right to circulate and offer amendments.” And “I hope and expect that you will not delay consideration simply to prevent the legislation from moving forward,” and “Artificial delays, delays for delays’ sake, has tainted too much of the Senate’s work over the last few years. That obstruction has contributed to the historically low esteem in which Congress is held by the American people.” |
Re: For Immigration, Timing Could Be Tricky
Selfish bastard.
Also, forgive me my conspiracy theories, but I think the White House is playing along too. Rubio is inexperieced and new to Congress and that is not other legislators' fault or, for that matter, our fault. CIR has been drafted, debated and analyzed over the last 10 years and Rubio happened to not have been there, but Durbin's, Gutierrez's and other advocates' work and advocacy have helped to bring CIR to the forefront, and I find it a bit rich of him to publicly patronize the Dems's supposed aversion to the "process". |
Re: For Immigration, Timing Could Be Tricky
Rubio = Potential Benedict Arnold of Immigration Reform. Unfortunately for him it is not his government, this is the people's government for the people and by the people!
