Big Sellout from Democrats for Our Cause

I think today was the worst day imaginable, a big sellout from demcrats to give the repubs. everything they wanted, short of an order to deport everyone. but the amend. just passed has many similar features built in. I dont know what the HELL reid was thinking, and to have the nerves to pass something like this with not even one attachment from their side, like the DREAM act, just makes me sickkkkk. he doesnt seem to be acting like the maj. leader but more like a wimp, bowing from every angle for the other party. sickening.

I completely agree with you mike8500. The worst thing is that the Republicans got what they wanted, but they will still object to any of the Democrats proposals on immigration.

not to sound dumb (i don't have a tv @ work) but what's going on?

You 've got to admit it, the Republicans get things done. The democrats want to save the goddam world, but are useless.

This immigration ammendment is nothing but the same as always, just funding for the border. Nothing about interiour enforcement.

Quote:

The amendment requires the president to obtain control over the entire US-Mexico border, boosts the number of Border Patrol agents and detention beds and provides three billion dollars in emergency money for a variety of border security programs. It also requires hundreds of miles of new fencing.

Democrats liked the money but objected to such GOP proposals as allowing law enforcement officers to question people about their immigration status and cracking down on those who overstay their visas.

After some parliamentary fireworks Wednesday, efforts to advance a compromise containing only the border security money broke down.

But Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., and Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, resolved their differences overnight and announced agreement Thursday morning. Cornyn won a promise to have some of the money used to go after immigrants who had entered the United States legally but had overstayed their visas.

yes, but it's not going to affect those who are already here. I'm not freaked out about this and nobody should be. Republicans didn't get everything they wanted including interior enforcement to drive us out. According to Graham this will pave the way to some pro-immigrant measures.

The Senate voted 89-1 to add the money to a homeland security spending bill for next year currently being debated. Republican sponsors said the money could help lay the groundwork for a broader immigration overhaul that could address the status of an estimated 12 million illegal immigrants living in the United States.

"It will make it easier to go to the next step," said Sen. Lindsey Graham, a South Carolina Republican.

Isn't the new amendment just the funding and none of the other provisions like the local law enforcement?
