CALLING BLITZ - Urge Congress/Dubrin to act ASAP
Well the current posting got off track so here's the info again with a new twist..
Some of us have been talking and decided to try and get Durbin to attach the bill to the HR 2642 Military Construction/Veteran Affairs Appropriation first. This is the bill they debate their first day back. The pressure of CIR and DOD is too much and we have to try to get Dream to sneak by unoticed. Alipac has not been calling all break and is not ready for a Dream vote if the vote is on the first or 2nd day of the new session ! (Of course if Durbin knows something we don't then he will use his best judgement on which bill is best - but some calls pressuring him NEVER hurt our case. We want him to come back and have his staff tell him "Durbin - I have never seen so many calls about this - you really need to make this a priority ASAP!) Dick Durbin: 202 224-2152 Please say something along the lines of "Hi, I'm calling to urge the Senator to consider adding the Dream Act to the HR 2642 so it does not get caught up in the bickering of DOD and CIR." We MUST pressure the big dogs who have the only say what comes to the Senate floor and what does not. We can have 80 cosponsors but unless they agree to bring it to the floor, it will never pass.... Here are the people we have to put as much pressure on as never before, this is not about annoying them, this is about letting them know that we have been patient, and waited long enough and the time for action is NOW!!! One of the most important people here is Senator McConnell the leader of Republicans and if he votes YES for Dream Act, you can surely expect half of Republicans to vote the same as him, since he has so much influence! Democratic Majority Leader: Harry Reid : 202-224-3542 Majority Democratic Whip # 2 Democrat: Dick Durbin: 202 224-2152 Republican Minority Leader: Mitch McConnell: 202-224-2541 Minority Republican Whip # 2 Republican: Trent Lott: 202-224-6253 Orrin Hatch: 202-224-5251 Richard Lugar: 202-224-4814 Chuck Hagel: 202 224-4224 If you do not know what to say when you call here is a sample: Hi, im calling to urge the Senator to do everything he can to bring the Dream Act S.774 to the Senate floor for a vote as soon as possible! |
Yep, good job task
