House GOP deputy whip: Senate immigration bill a ‘pipe dream’

http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/...-a-pipe-dream/
Quote:

House Republican Deputy Whip Peter Roskam (R-Ill.) said Thursday morning that the Senate immigration bill likely won’t come to a vote in the House, labeling it a “pipe dream.”

“The House has no capacity to move that bill in its entirety,” he told a breakfast hosted by the National Review. “It just won’t happen. It is a pipe dream to think that bill is going to go to the floor and be voted on.”

The Senate bill is primed to get the support of less-than one-third of Senate Republicans on Thursday. In the House, most bills require the support of a majority of Republicans, under the so-called “Hastert Rule,” and the House GOP conference is notably more conservative than the Senate GOP caucus.

House GOP leaders have said — and Roskam repeated Thursday — that the House will move forward with its own immigration bill, potentially sending the Senate and House versions to a conference committee to work out a final package that would need to be approved by both chambers.

Roskam left open the possibility that the House version would include a path to citizenship for illegal immigrants — a cornerstone of the comprehensive Senate bill which Democrats insist on — but that it would only come with sufficient border security.

”Once there is a level of confidence on a secure border, then you can begin to move forward on these other elements,” he said.

I really just can't with these morons.

There is a Senate bill. There is no House bill or even smaller bullshit border measures. And they want to drag this out until they have the debt ceiling/budget issues to deal with and they can just put it on the back burner again.

I just don't understand why this is so hard for us.

Let me tell you man, the House is definitely taking a go eff-yourself approach when it comes to this reform. Nothing promising has come from them all through CIR bill has sailed congress. Boehner wont bother since there's just too much at stake for him. This is a make or break for the GOP; dont they realize how utterly devastating it will be to lose the 2016 elections?...All in all, seems like a long, very long shot for reform to pass house.. Sorry, don't mean to impart negativism.

This is why I think Pro-immigrant groups should start registrations for new US citizens for 2014.The target would be the appropriate number of on the fence House Republicans that would allow Boehner to lose his current majority and eventual Speakership.

This could also give House Republican leadership second thought on being more favorable towards reform.

Timing, timing, timing. Agree, all revolves around proper timing. Republicans are really pushing the right votes to anger many many of us.

IF ONLY ENOUGH PEOPLE WERE SUFFICIENTLY INFORMED.

It reminds me of an old joke regarding why a dog licks his balls. The answer is of course because he can. The Republicans in the House have much more self confidence that they'll get reelected in their communities which probably have very little immigrants - legal ones at least. That's why every race matters. If there were as many "anchor babies" as Republicans claim, they wouldn't be saying that. Either that or the anchor babies are more concerned with partying, getting pregnant, or joining gangs to care about other immigrants or their own parents to register to vote.

'Anchor babie'... Most of them cant tell you the difference between "piece-meal approach" or "complete legislation." They are as useless as rich American kids attending IVI leagues because they are forced to do so lol...
