Tell your citizen friends and relatives about this in case they don't know. Make sure they have these by the time 2014 elections happen. This is a very important election. |
Re: New Photo Voter ID cards in Texas
i'm kind of surprised this actually went through, requiring photo id to vote is unusual

Re: New Photo Voter ID cards in Texas
There was another article of this nature on MSNBC and it said that the Attorney General can still use other sections of the VRA to prevent the implementation of discriminatory state practices. And State Sen. Wendy Davis along with the Democrats and Black Caucus are suing the state to force an injunction from the State Supreme Court.

We want to keep this country under control by the citizens of the country. We do not want the country to be taken over by foreigners. Voting without a photo ID is absolutely UNHEARD of in all other countries of the world. All other countries require some form of photo ID for voting purposes. A Photo ID is needed for voting to protect our freedom, not to hurt freedom. In other words, if we abuse freedom, we are going to lost freedom in the end. |

Its one thing to prevent voter fraud, but its another thing to disenfranchise legitimate voters. |

If a citizen does not have the papers, he or she is not different from a foreign visitor or a foreign student. A foreigner can also claim he or she is a US citizen without showing any papers. Freedom is there to uphold the value of this country. Freedom is not there to abuse! |

There are also US citizens who cannot prove they are US citizens as you said.I can definitely give some prominent current examples of this.I found 1 individual who didn't know they were a US citizen due to their parent serving in the vietnam war and gaining US citizenship through wartime. They came to the US on a visitor's visa and overstayed but the military is not giving access to records due to privacy regulations. The parent gained US citizenship before the child's birth. There was another individual who came into the US on a green card as a minor but never renewed said green card due their parents Naturalizing before turning the age of 18.They never bothered to apply for a Certificate of Naturalization due to the CCA act because it is too expensive. It maybe difficult to believe, but there are US citizens out there who unknowingly may believe they are actually undocumented just because of expiration of a document or don't have the necessary proof to prove otherwise. |

So, what? If somebody does not have the citizenship papers, how can you know they are truly American citizens? How can do you know that? A foreign student or visitor who pretends to be a US citizen just has to say, "I am a US citizen, but I happen to have lost my citizenship documents." Like I said, as a citizen of this country, he or she is OBLIGATED to keep all those valuable citizenship documents protected. The documents of citizenship are SO VALUABLE that nobody should lose them. |

I gave you two distinct real life issues where these individuals are US citizens but are not obligated or even simply cannot prove it either because of bureaucracy or economics. You seem to indicate simply because someone cannot prove US citizenship their right as such should be curtailed! |

If I tell you that I am a US citizen but have lost all my citizenship documents, would you let me vote? If a US citizen has lost the citizenship documents, he or she should do everything possible to get those documents back. Don't mention anything like cost, time, other people being lazy. A US citizen should even sacrifice his or her life to get the citizenship documents back. If you do not care about the documents that establish your citizenship for this country yourself, nobody else should care about your citizenship rights, either! |
