Republicans will press with letter immigration debate
Spanish new google translate
A group of House Republicans , led by David Valadao of California, is preparing a letter that will ask the party leadership to allow a debate on immigration reform . Valadao , Rep. District 21 , the heart of the California farmer , confirmed the existence of the letter on Friday and said several party members are behind his efforts to bring the House "forward " . " I had a meeting with some members ( of the House ) the other day and the question was, ' We want this seriously or not? '" Said Valadao . " So we decided to get together to ask other members to put their name on something , on whatever support " . Valadao said in private conversations "enough " Republicans discuss the issue of reforms to the immigration laws at different levels, but few have taken the step that he and two colleagues , Jeff Denham , California Congresswoman Ileana Ross Lehtinen , Florida Republican , have given to support a measure filed by Democrats in the House (HR -15 ) . " With regard to the later , the idea is to have a debate. I will not ask them to sponsor a bill in particular but I think we should put pressure on the leadership because we need to move this forward, " said Valadao . Sources indicate that a draft of the letter already be in circulation and has 50 signatories , although Valadao declined to give more specific information. The House went into recess until Thursday November 12 and on his return , the schedule breaks before Thanksgiving and Christmas , have limited time to play contentious issues , among which are the budget and further cuts sequestration that would occur automatically from January 1 . The leadership of the House in Republican hands , is to decide whether a bill for comprehensive immigration reform , or some more limited , advance and come to some sort of debate on the floor of that chamber. The Senate or Upper House has already passed a comprehensive reform bill in June and then would have to reconcile the two projects to reach a final agreement. The timing for all this effort looks increasingly complicated . " We can not lose this window of opportunity," said Frank Sharry , director of America's Voice, a lobbying group for immigration reform in Washington, who stressed on Friday the importance of moving something as soon as possible . http://www.laopinion.com/reforma_mig...n_carta_debate |
