The Department of Homeland released a final rule Friday that will significantly increase the fees it charges to process immigration and naturalization benefit requests.

The final rule from U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, which will be published Monday and take effect in December, increases dozens of application fees by a weighted average 21 percent, in a bid to cover the costs associated with processing these fees.

A review by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services found that the current fees "do not recover the full cost of services provided.

Most fees will see increases of a few hundred dollars or less. Petitions to allow the entry of an alien fiance or relative will rise from $340 and $420, respectively, to $535 each.

Applications to register in the U.S. as a permanent resident will rise from $985 to $1,140.

But others rise more sharply. It currently costs $585 to apply for permission to reapply for U.S. admission after a deportation or removal, and that cost will rise to $930.

The cost of an immigration petition from an "alien entrepreneur" will rise from $1,500 to $3,675.

The rule exempts from fees any application from people who are "victims of a severe form of human trafficking," if they help law enforcement crack down on that trafficking.

Processing costs related to adoption will also rise, from $720 to $775, which led to some complaints at DHS that the move will discourage adoption.

After this whole delay debacle, they come out with shinny new fees. Gotta love USCIS!

Raising prices in association with the cost of "processing" these applications? Do we have a new meaning for the word processing? I think USCIS' definition is sitting on applications ad infinitum

I don't care if DACA fees are $10,000. I just want to see eDACA pass.
