Texas Republican leaders silent on Paxton's request to Trump to end DACA
But support for Paxton’s action from his fellow Texas Republicans has been muted. None of the major statewide elected officials have publicly sounded off on Paxton’s threat to sue the federal government over the controversial immigration program, even though most tout their tough-on-immigration credentials.
That includes Gov. Greg Abbott, who as Texas’ attorney general in 2014 filed suit against an expansion of the program that would have granted temporary deportation relief to unauthorized immigrants who were parents of American citizens or legal residents. That suit eventually blocked the program from going into effect. Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick, who has said the program “defied both the Constitution and the rule of law,” has also stayed mum on Paxton's letter, as has U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz, who promised to do away with the program during his presidential campaign against Trump last year. Sen. John Cornyn, the No. 2 Republican in the Senate who has urged caution on rescinding a program that has served about 800,000 people since 2012, also hasn't weighed in. All were contacted by The Dallas Morning News for this story. None replied to multiple email and phone requests for comment over several days. Emily Farris, a political science professor at Texas Christian University, said politics could be at play. Getting rid of the original deferred action program, which could grant protection from deportation to nearly 2 million people who came to the country as children, would be controversial, even among some moderate Republicans who would not support protections for other groups of unauthorized immigrants. https://www.dallasnews.com/news/immi...trump-end-daca |

Keep in mind that DACA is no different than DACA in legal terms, specially how it was implemented. I hope Trump orders the DOJ to defend it, otherwise we are screwed. Also, The AG, Jeff Sessions has always wanted to terminate it, I think this is the biggest threat to DACA unfortunately.

They know this move will be political suicide. Its gonna be a shit storm for the Republicans come 2018. Trump and the Republican brand is destroyed amongst millennials and very young people who will be the future electorate.

However, that could be subject to change like if Trump fucks up or the Democrats introduce a likeable candidate, we'll see when the next election comes up. Not trying to be a fear monger. |

It is not political suicide, they can all just get quite about it and nothing will happen. The constitution etc.. etc... Amnesty etc.. It is the court who will shut it down, not congressional republicans. This is their plan... |
