The ACLU Is Investigating Whether States Are Colluding With Sessions

The ACLU Is Investigating Whether States Are Colluding With Sessions To End DACA

Quote:

The civil rights group is looking for communications between states and the attorney general's office to try and force President Trump to rescind protections for undocumented students.

Civil rights advocates now want to know if that threat is part of a coordinated effort between the states and Sessions to try to force the Trump administration to drop the axe.

Lorella Praeli, director of immigration policy and campaigns at the ACLU, said the only way to truly know if there has been any collusion between Sessions or the states, is through open records requests they plan to file on Monday.

“It would be very telling if there was in fact communication between the attorney general’s office and the Trump administration because it would show there’s a coordinated attack against DACA and that they were trying to subvert Trump, who said DACA recipients should 'rest easy,'” Praeli told BuzzFeed News.

Praeli said the records requests may come back with nothing, but they have to cover their bases since the future of DACA is so uncertain.

"We don't know, but the whole point of this is to try to get more information and evidence on DACA from the administration," Praeli said.

There was a story floating around a while back of how the Trump admin. was looking for ways to end DACA without having Trump invloved. I remember this being one theory, if states were to challenge the program in courts. I wouldn't be surprised if the Trump admin/Sessions colluded with the states and told them to sue and that they wouldn't defend it in court.

I'm an ardent ACLU supporter and monthly donor, however, this is white noise. Educating the American public about the benefits, effect of immigration and using their reach and resources to pass legislative solutions serves the immigrant populations they are defending better.
