Trump Insists on Wall in Exchange for a DACA Fix
WASHINGTON President Trump said Thursday he's open to a deal to protect some undocumented immigrants from deportation but only if enough Democrats back his border wall with Mexico and other proposals on immigration.
"If we have support from the Democrats I think DACA is going to be terrific," Trump said, referring to the Obama-era Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program that shielded hundreds of thousands of young people brought into the country illegally as children from deportation. But, Trump told reporters during a meeting with Republican senators, "any legislation on DACA must secure the border with a wall ... Wed love to take care of DACA, but were only going to do it on these conditions." Trump suspended the DACA program in September, giving Congress six months to come up with a legislative solution before ordering deportations to begin. Democrats and some Republicans have strongly opposed ending DACA, which they said will lead to deportations of productive young people who came into the country through no fault of their own. Yet Trump's demands for a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border and an end to the longstanding practice of "chain migration" the ability of U.S. citizens to sponsor their extended family for visas have been sticking points to finding an agreement. Democrats say Trump's border wall is impractical and will do nothing to stop illegal immigration and that other immigration programs the president wants to scrap are already tightly scrutinized to weed out criminals and terrorism suspects. Still, Trump appeared optimistic on Thursday, saying, "We are, believe it or not, also working with Democrats." https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/...ns/1003768001/ |

His stance has not and will not change. Like I said before, this is Trump's ONLY opportunity at getting his wall built. If he doesn't get the funding in exchange for dreamer relief, he isn't getting it any other time. Will Dems give him the wall?

I will gladly pay a wall fine if i had to, hopefully whatever compromise they do helps on stopping this situation from happening ever again, those that disagree with me are free to go back to where they came from, sorry.

Build that fucking wall, I wanna see their faces when they realize that it barely made a dent on illegal immigrantion. Billions of US taxpayer money to stop maybe 10 people a year, if any at all!

Re: Trump Insists on Wall in Exchange for a DACA Fix
Dems lost their full leverage after december. Schumer is probably crying now since he lost the game of cards with trump. The way i see it is, dems will not shutdown the govt. Its been proven and trump sees this. So their options given its midterm election time are:
Option 1: Do w.e. trump says and pass a dreamer relief with the wall, end chain migration, everify, etc. Then watch trump sign it and see him happily saying he accomplished something that both bush and obama could do. Option 2: Do nothing and pass another CR if its possible or vote for republicans proposed spending bill, then watch trump campaign saying 'democrats refused to resolve immigration since they want ppl pouring in, they dont want to fix immigration, theyre all talk, they screwed daca deal, etc' Either way democrats have failed themselves by going with schumer's leftist bipartisanship approach which got them nothing done in the white house. To nagivate this tough political environment, democrats should have been firm on their stance. When they say theyll shut it down, shut it down and let votes, elections, etc speak for themselves. Chasing a potential future primary election, kicking the can down the road and constantly just taking once in a while doesnt demonstrate the democrats are doing any work. It doesnt take months after months to negotiate things. Democrats know clearly what trump and repubs want, theres no point in delaying it to see if repubs change on their stance. |
