GOP senators turning Trump immigration framework into legislation

A group of GOP senators is working to translate President Trump's immigration framework into legislation as the chamber barrels toward a floor fight with no deal in sight.

Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) said Republican senators — led by Sen. Chuck Grassley (Iowa), the chairman of the Judiciary Committee — are working to write a bill based on the White House's proposal.

"That's what the discussion is," Cornyn told The Hill after a meeting with Grassley and other GOP senators, including Sens. David Perdue (Ga.) and James Lankford (Okla.), when asked if they were drafting legislation.
Cornyn didn't specifically rule out changes to the framework as the senators create the legislation, but said they aren't going to "negotiate against ourselves.

Lankford appeared to signal that he had talked with Democrats as the immigration proposal is being drafted.

"I've had all kinds of conversations with Democrats saying, what changes would you need," he said.

But Lankford added that both sides are digging in, rather than trying to close the gap.

We hope so. But even our inclusion in any relief is questionable. We can't get it all.

You are starting to sound like DA_User / DA_IR (whatever his username is).

We get it you missed the entry date. While I hope everyone is covered, older dreamers deserve it more.

Maybe in the final legislation. But fat chance of it being in the Republican legislation.

Isn't about who deserves it more or who doesn't deserve it. It's about democrats at the very least negotiate all dreamers for whatever trump is asking. After this bill passes it will be extremely difficult for left out dreamers to fix their status.

Definitely the ones that have been pushing this for years and never got a chance to apply for DACA

It ain't matter if Democrats cede their leverage by agreeing to a two year budget without DACA.
1) Republican will stuff everything they want into this "immigration bill" for a "fair debate" knowing full well that nothing will pass without their sign off
2) Democrats will find it too hard to swallow so either a few of them defect or they will filibuster the bill

Rs will be happy because they can blame Ds for obstructing a DACA solution - minimize headline damage for them
Ds will be happy because they can carry this into 2018 midterm and use this as a talking point indefinitely

Win-win for everybody. See you in 2020.
