On the backs of Dreamers, the White House is attempting to radically slash legal immigration by prohibiting American citizens from reuniting with their parents, siblings, and children. This isn’t what America should stand for.

Democrats strongly oppose limiting legal immigration, and conservatives are against giving citizenship to DACA recipients, and Trump's bill has gotten little traction in Congress. Durbin, his party's chief vote counter, said Trump's proposal would not get 60 Senate votes, saying, "I don't think it will get any votes on the Democratic side

I don’t agree with Durbin there. It wouldn’t be a problem if they had been living here for years. But bringing all their family plus more is the problem.

I take it none of the meetings he's been having with the other '2 leaders' and Kelly and Nielsen haven't led to anything. I wonder what they talk about during these meetings. It seems to me that they just regurgitate the same points every time they meet.

@JakeSherman
Pretty remarkable: as we approach another shutdown this week, there is almost no talk about the deal including language for DACA.

Democrats have simply been unable so far to force an immigration deal. But republicans aren’t out of the woods — they might be forced into a summer immigration fight just months ahead of a tough midterm.
