Gutierrez: Pelosi's speech was great, but real DACA test comes Thursday

“I’m thankful to her for giving that speech, I applaud her for giving the speech, and now tomorrow I want her to use the same kind of tenacity and muscle and perseverance to stop the Democrats from folding,” Gutierrez told reporters Wednesday evening in the Capitol. “Because what you have is collusion –– whether or not the Intelligence Committee agrees –– between a group of Democrats and Donald Trump that will lead to the deportation of Dreamers.”

Gutierrez said that while Pelosi's speech was great, party leaders must use more aggressive tools to rally member opposition –– carrots and sticks related to committee assignments and campaign cash, for instance –– or the Dreamers will never get their vote.

“There’s all kinds of ways, I assure you, that leadership exercises its influence, the least of which are floor speeches,” he said.

“When the deportations begin, anybody that voted for that bargain Thursday also voted to collude with Republicans to lead to the deportation of Dreamers,” Gutierrez said.

“And they will come for them, if we don’t stop them.”

Gutierrez 2020!

He's right. It all depends on how they vote, not what is said.

Exactly what I’ve been saying. We need an assurance that this was more than just a one time show.

She did the 'speech' because she doesn't want to get primaried and lose the leadership position. Horrible PR stunt on the backs of #Dreamers.

That's not the while quote....he reiterated the same thing he has said in the past, that he would bring a bill to the floor that the president supports.

No, he said he "we will bring a DACA solution to the floor which the president will sign". He did not agree to an open amendment process, like McConnell did in the Senate. Do you want a Shitlatte?

Here is what will likely happen, Senate will pass a lib leaning bill, House will pass a cons leaning bill, it will go to conference, then it will die. Then Dems will appear "outraged!" and demand all citizen immigrants and hispanics to vote for them in the Nov 2018 elections to #FreeTheDreamers. Republicans will do the same for #FundTheWall.

I think more likely is that nothing will be brought to the House floor. Or if they bring it up, it will probably not pass there. The rest I agree.
