Every Senate immigration proposal on the table, in one simple chart

See attached chart:

Quote:

The Senate has opened debate on immigration, and there are at least seven proposals on the table.

The best way to think about these proposals is how they approach three broad categories of issues:

What to do with DREAMers, who were undocumented when they came to the US as children

What enforcement measures to implement, like a border wall

What changes they want to make to legal immigration, like eliminating visas for family-based immigration

The proposals being thrown out can be hard to keep track of, but we put them all in a chart that makes it much easier to see the similarities in the plans. The chart makes apparent that much of the disagreement is on cutting legal immigration. (My colleague Tara Golshan asked seven Republican senators why they want to cut legal immigration; their lack of a passionate defense is really worth reading.)

Very useful chart. Wish Trump can see this and realize what is holding up his wall.

As I said the disagreement comes from changing the legal immigration system, not by the amount of Dreamers who qualify.

Graham-Durbin and 'Common Sense' (Collins) bill have the same component. Difference:

200, 000 aged out Dreamers and 2.5B vs 25(!!) billion for wall/border/interior enforcement.

Exactly. Trump need to give up on chain migration and if he really wants to end, pass a restricted CIR with it!

They must remove the age cap.

The Graham-Durbin bill gives more of what Trump wants: no sponsoring of parents and ends diversity visa.

Do you guys really think Trump won't sign anything that doesnt include his four pillars?

Plus, I guess if Trump doesn't endorse it, then the House will be a problem too. Since Ryan has been saying he won't do anything 45 doesn't approve...

It’s not even close to what Trump wants. According to this chart it only covers $2.5 billion , that’s not enough for Trump and it also does nothing for family sponsorship which is one of Trump’s biggest issue. Other than the Grassley bill of course, I would say the Flake bill comes very close to what Trump wants and it’s very fair in my opinion.

I support Grassley/WH, Flake(not backup one), Common Sense, and Gardner-Bennet

It's time Democrats get real and realize they are the minority party and need to give ground to the Reps cause the House can only support conservative friendly proposals.

Gardner-Bennett should be the last option because of mandatory E-verify.

Trump's proposal isn't that bad in comparison to Gardner-Bennett.

But, yes. Overall I agree with you bro.

Democrats lost all leverage. They should just fucking cave and support whatever bill GOP is offering. Grassley/WH is our best bet.
