Dreamers no longer banned from 70 occupations in Indiana

DACA recipients, often called Dreamers, would no longer be shut out of more than 70 occupations in Indiana under legislation headed to Gov. Eric Holcomb's desk.

Indiana lawmakers gave final approval Wednesday to a bill that would change the citizenship verification requirements for obtaining professional licenses to include the roughly 9,000 young immigrants in Indiana who were brought to the United States illegally as children but granted legal work status under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program.

A win for Indiana DACAers with professional licenses.

Glad to hear that!!! You shouldn't be barred from getting a professional license because of your immigration status. That is just a cruel cruel punishment! This is when I feel extra lucky to be living in a very liberal state. I've got a professional license myself and I can't imagine being held back from getting it after years and years of education to qualify for it.

Certified Public Accountant. We've got it good compared to some other fields like in medicine in which I believe you're scrutinized if you're not a permanent resident. With CPA, there's just so much uniformity that the requirements are pretty much identical in each state. Therefore, I am pretty sure the CPA was exempt from Indiana's old requirement of being documented. If I was living there and they stopped me from getting a CPA license, I would have sued the shit out of the state (and won).
