Arizona Supreme Court strikes down in-state tuition for 'dreamers'

Arizona colleges can't give in-state tuition to young immigrants covered under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, the Arizona Supreme Court ruled Monday.

The court issued a brief decision order saying justices unanimously agreed with the Arizona Court of Appeals' ruling that said existing federal and state laws don't allow the Maricopa Community Colleges to grant in-state tuition rates for DACA recipients.

A full opinion further explaining the court's ruling will be released by May 14, the order states.

The court released the order Monday to allow Maricopa Community Colleges students and the state to have as much time as possible to plan for those affected by the ruling.

More than 2,000 DACA recipients, commonly referred to as "dreamers," currently attend community college or a state university in Arizona and pay in-state rates. The ruling will make DACA recipients pay much more to attend these schools, as out-of-state rates are about triple the cost of in-state tuition.

Didn’t a Supreme Court ruling said Arizona needs to give dreamers licenses? Couldn’t this ruling be use against the Arizona ruling ?

The funny thing is that the place is full of Latinos... but some feel white and forget to look at themselves in the mirror every morning.

Arizona has a very large latino population, I don't get how GOP has such a strong hold on the state.

There are 60k dreamers in the state, this will have a generation effect. SAD!

Fuck Arizona. California or Nevada is where its at. I know in my state as long as you graduate from a high school in this state you can get in state tuition no questions asked.

The sad reality is that sometimes Latinos/Hispanics tend to go against their own people. Look at Texas & Florida. They’re a good example of that.

I just got an associates and applied to ASU. Just spent 50 bucks on the application the other day and now apparently did it for no reason lol. Damn I was over the hill already. Me and my buddies are worrying big time. All of us were about to move to ASU full time and then this slams our dreams. Stay strong fellas.

Do you guys think its worth going even if it takes years to finish? (2-3 classes a semester)Do job prospects go down the drain if this route is taken? Any experiences would be appreciated.
