House Republicans are having a bad-faith immigration debate

Why are Republicans pushing a proposal that appears doomed to fail?

The more generous read is that moderate Republicans, who rallied around a discharge petition — but fell two signatures short of forcing votes on bipartisan immigration bills — successfully pressured House Speaker Paul Ryan to hold a vote on immigration that he didn’t want to.

The less generous interpretation is that moderate Republicans are getting a vote on something, anything, so that they can take it back to their voters in November and say that they tried

And before that was TPS, and next time will be something else. Round and round we go.

The bill is shit anyway.

This is worst bill in history . Only very tiny portion of DACA population will be qualified in order to meet all of the eligibility requirement . And it’s not guaranteed path to green card , it’s contingent on the border funding

Stop being so fucking selfish !

Trump can stop the family separation with a stroke of pen . It doesn’t need congressional approval . He is using it as hostage

Okay assume the bill covers 40% of the people, still no? 50? 60? 70? 80? 90? 100?

Selfish is just being human nature: survival..

Yes, because government is a giant enterprise. Meetings after meetings. Only on the most urgency, do they make a stop-bleeding solution.

I don't know about you guys but I'm really relieved the renewals are going on. The next step forward should include aged out dreamers, and aged in dreamers.

Good luck with that. Renewals for even those who qualified are barely hanging by a thread.

100% of those that the original Dream Act would have covered (updated to reflect today's ages) or nothing.
