Scotus Accepts Brief

https://www.supremecourt.gov/DocketP...0%2018-589.pdf

Can anyone translate? Looks like Scotus accepted a brief that it would be devastating to end DACA during a pandamic

I may be wrong.

Question that was asked: Could you clarify what today's action on DACA means? This is not a ruling. Simply they have accepted a brief what does this mean for a final ruling?

Answer:
Exactly. This was a brief about the importance of DACA recipients as essential workers (in ERs, etc.) in the fight against COVID-19. But you don't get to just file briefs willy nilly in the Supreme Court once the regular briefing schedule is over; you have to file a motion for leave to file (that is, permission to file) the new ("supplemental") brief. So today the justices granted that motion, which means that the brief itself is officially part of the record before them in making the decision. Hope that's helpful; please let me know if you have more questions.

DACA UPDATE: In an extraordinary move Monday, #SCOTUS accepted a brief filed by advocates in the DACA case, and did not issue an opinion on the case. Next possible decision date is this Thursday! Renew your DACA if you can.

What do you mean the next possible decision is this Thursday? I thought the decision supposed to be by summer before this whole covid-19 situation came up. So now they are releasing decision this Thrusday??

They were to start issuing decisions on cases today...so everyone was expecting something on DACA. They release opinions on Monday’s and Thursday’s.....that’s why that’s the next day to watch for...

No, opinions are released either Monday or Thursday.

No opinion today, so that means there’s a chance it might be released Thursday. If not Thursday, then the monday after, etc,all the way through June. June is the latest that it will be released.

So the opinion is basically the decision?

Re: Scotus Accepts Brief

Yes.

A legal ruling is called an opinion.

Lol I can't believe we're gonna have the emotional baggage of this added on top of this pandemic. Damn they couldn't drop the hammer when this is over?
