Re: Cecilia Muñoz, Who Defended Family Separations, Joins Biden Transition Team
I am not familiar with the "family separation" policies to be very frank. But on the face of "deportation", I thought Obama's administration was more hardline on criminals: https://abcnews.go.com/Politics/obam...ry?id=41715661
I think we need to be confident that the Biden WH is going to be much more immigration friendly than Trump. We have to agree that at some point some people just arne't going to be allowed staying forever. It's just the reality. |

Obama was not better for immigrants - he in fact squandered many an opportunity to help ther community. Obama is the past; he was center-right. Move on and look for progressive solutions.

Biden will target immigrants with criminal records. Dems don't want to be seen as soft on crime and open borders. Trump kill the dems with that in 2016

Re: Cecilia Muñoz, Who Defended Family Separations, Joins Biden Transition Team
Y’all please remember that part of the reason the number of deportations were so high during Obama was due to the GW Bush program that started towards the end of his presidency: Secure Communities.
Secure communities brought ICE to county jails and thus many people even those with minor offenses were put in removal proceedings. A lot of them after losing their cases in court did ended up being deported during the Obama administration. Obama ended the program and replaced with an enforcement level program where majority of cases only people with serious offenses ended up in removal proceedings. During Obama certain people in removal proceedings were afforded what was known as prosecutorial discretion and allowed to stay in the US. Trump revived Secure Communities in 2017 and took away prosecutorial discretion and re-open proceedings for all those people who were given prosecutorial discretion under Obama. I am not an Obama fan girl but his number look higher than most because they were a result of prior administration programs for the most part. |

Also that most arrests during Obama era occurred at the border and not internal enforcement. TBH, this is the way it should be from now.
No more border crossings and visa overstays and finally take care of the 20 million that are already here. Cannot have both. A country ought to have borders and be able to enforce them. |
Re: Cecilia Muñoz, Who Defended Family Separations, Joins Biden Transition Team
Key members of the GOP said they are will to revive immigration talks. Now it all about what they are willing to compromise and live with. The Dream act is a non-starter, dems may have to include border security and e verify and perhaps decrease levels of immigration for a period. That is not that bad considering covid is still raging. They said they are not looking to mass deport million so of people.
