Slower Renewal Times

Just an FYI for those who don't already know, multiple news sources are reporting about slower DACA renewal times due to the migrant situation. I hope this helps everyone plan accordingly.

“It's a nationwide problem where there's a lot of DACA recipients that have been waiting for over five months for their renewal to be processed," he said.

With the recent influx of new immigrants overwhelming the system that also processes DACA renewals, some offices are now months behind in their work.

We see backlogs happen in different types of immigration cases," immigration attorney Kate Lincoln-Goldfish said. "Often there's lots of different processing centers, and sometimes one of the processing centers can get behind."

I usually apply late because my renewals get approve within a month but I guess this year I am going to apply early.

I expire Feb 2025, I am thinking of applying in July or August 2024 for the renewal

I think that the situation is so absurd right now in that the people who just arrived are being sent NOT to the location of their choice and yet get expedited work authorization, something that workers who have built a life and home on their own don't have a process to apply...and people with current work authorization are at risk of expiring before renewal.

I do think that everyone's doing their best, but the country needs a new plan. Watch the MSNBC panel discussion that aired today - 40+ years without updating new immigration laws, positive ones that respond to market, humanitarian, and modern needs.

How long did you wait for your AP to be approved? I am applying this month.

I’m applying for AP this month as well. My lawyer says they’re seeing 3-4 months turn around time. I applied for DACA renewal online in December and my cases was approved in 3-4 days when it usually takes over 3 months by mail. Are you all applying through mail?
