To the right of that page, there is a red flash video button. Click it, and the video should pop up.

[edit]: Durbin starts talking about immigration at 4:40 into it.

Congress is expected to pass S-Chip before they tackle universal healthcare. I'm hoping they use the same logic for the Dream Act as a down payment on comprehensive immigration reform.

I found this article on a forum, but i couldn't find the link to it or who wrote it though.

Quote:

Confident that his party has taken over Congress and the White House, Democrat Harry Reid, the Senate Majority Leader, introduced the immigration measure (Stronger Economy, Stronger Borders Act of 2009) this week with high hopes of getting it passed by year’s end.

Its goal supposedly is to strengthen the United States economy and provide for more effective border and employment enforcement, even though the law aims to halt the Homeland Security Department’s border fence project along crime-infested stretches notorious for human and drug smuggling. Reid believes the barrier would adversely affect the fragile environment and an entire region's vibrant cross-border culture.

He also includes language in the bill that stresses family reunification by providing same-sex partners with “immigration equality” and allowing illegal aliens to become U.S. citizens since, according to the measure, the economy will be far more secure when those who are currently living in the shadows of our society are recognized.

Reid has for years been a proud advocate of illegal immigrants. In mid 2000 he co-sponsored the Development, Relief and Education for Alien Minors (DREAM) Act to permit states to grant the much lower instate college tuition rate to illegal immigrants and allow them to remain in the U.S. legally with a path to citizenship. The measure has floated around Congress for years and is expected to pass sometime in 2009.
Nevermind, i found out the source of the article

Re: Democratic Senate Agenda News Conference(video)

^ That makes me giddy!

From the press conference, here's the Senate agenda for the first part of the 6 week Senate work period.

1. 200 million acres of public wilderness preservation/new trails Tomnibus bill (in (dis)honor of Tom Coburn (R-OK) who had stymied this bill in the 110th Congress) - PASSED in the Senate.

2. Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act/Equal Pay for Equal Work bill (already passed the House)

3. S-Chip

4. Stimulus

I'm liking this new 111th Congress; much more efficient in crushing Republican obstruction. I think I'm going to start a thread detailing the Senate agenda and what's been passed etc.

^^ Found this on his website.

They even blocked our Dream Act which would have helped children of immigrants being denied citizenship to receive an education and a good job. I’ll tell you why I thought that was so important too. I was in Smith Valley, Nevada; a little agricultural community on Lyon County. I spoke to the assembly and I could tell that there was a young lady in high school that wanted to talk to me. I went over and talked to her and she said in words that I’ll never forget, ‘I’m the smartest kid in my class, but I can’t go to college, my parents came here illegally. What am I going to do Senator?’ I didn’t have an answer for her, and I don’t know what has ever happened to that beautiful young woman. I don’t know what she’s doing, but I know that we are going to continue to work so that in the future when somebody asks me, I can say, ‘We passed the Dream Act and you can go to college.’
“Thank you very much for inviting me today. I look forward to working with you in the future. This is a great organization. Thank you very much.”

^ Sen. Reid is a good man. I hope this year (preferably early) he can say to that young woman that he helped pass the Dream Act.
