Republicans and Latino Voters: Has the GOP Shifted on Immigration Reform?
The article is long but quite terrific.
http://www.usnews.com/articles/news/....html?PageNr=1 I think the most striking is the silly argument over priorities. Yea, even for some undocumented immigrants the economy is a priority. We are in the dumps but that does not mean that we do not care deeply about immigration. Rather we understand why CIR is not going to happen within 100 days. It does not mean we do not expect it in the near future. A year or two max. Of course that their anti-immigrant rethoric cost the republican party the Latino vote. Even if immigration is not a top priority. When talking about undocumented people, it is not a conversation about those people. There are uncles, brothers, mothers and friends. Furthermore, you are talking about making harsher laws for people who look just like me, talk like me and act like me. You cannot just attack a friend and a family member and then come with the wolf in sheep clothes and say that it does not affect the latino voter. Remember Latinos for latinos family is veeeeery important. |
