Not true, If you are covered under 245i , you are indeed able to adjust with DV. What they meant is adjustment under DV before 2001 doesnt qualify you for 245i.

Don't be disheartened, I graduated college when I was almost 24. Theres not much physical difference between people in the 20s and mid 30s, then age starts to show.
