I agree but from what Orlando wrote; it seems l ike you are screwed. I'm actually leaving the USA (probably forever) next week and left for over a year once before...

I think you have a good point and I believe it might be better to apply for permanent residency because then they won't run the risk of you overstaying any visas.

That sucks, they can't even afford the $500 to file it. Can they extend this visas later or turn them into permanent residency?

I'd love to get temporary status for for such a small fee.

well the student visa process is fairly easy as long as you have a valid passport. the only thing that sucked is that i had to get a chest x-ray (if you are from certain countries you might not need...
